Little Bugs Preschool is a play-based early learning and child care center serving children from infancy through school age. We are committed to providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment where children can learn, grow, and build meaningful relationships.

We are seeking a caring, dependable, and enthusiastic Toddler Teacher to join our team and help create a positive learning experience for our youngest learners.

Position Overview

The Toddler Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities, maintaining a safe and engaging classroom environment, and supporting the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of toddlers.

The ideal candidate is patient, nurturing, and passionate about working with young children. This individual should be able to work collaboratively with classroom staff and maintain a professional, respectful relationship with children, families, and colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement age-appropriate curriculum and learning activities aligned with Pennsylvania’s Early Learning Standards.

• Prepare and maintain current lesson plans for review by the Director.

• Provide attentive supervision of children at all times in accordance with Pennsylvania Department of Human Services regulations and classroom ratio requirements.

• Create a safe, clean, organized, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment.

• Support children’s development through play-based learning, exploration, and hands-on experiences.

• Encourage positive social interactions, emotional development, and age-appropriate independence.

• Provide responsive care and assistance with daily routines, including meals, diapering, toileting, handwashing, and rest periods.

• Treat each child with dignity and respect while recognizing individual cultural, developmental, and emotional needs.

• Maintain accurate classroom records, including attendance, incident reports, and medication logs, as applicable.

• Complete and distribute children’s progress reports at least twice per year.

• Communicate regularly and professionally with families regarding children’s daily experiences, development, and classroom needs.

• Work cooperatively with assistant teachers, classroom aides, and the Director to maintain consistent care and classroom routines.

• Maintain a professional demeanor and serve as a positive role model for children and staff.

• Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and other center activities as required.

Qualifications

The Toddler Teacher must meet or exceed the qualifications established by 55 Pa. Code § 3270.35 and the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services.

Minimum qualifications include:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.

• Must meet one of the following educational and experience requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Special Education, Elementary Education, Human Services, or a related field, with at least one year of experience working with children; or

  • Bachelor’s degree in another field with at least 30 credit hours in early childhood education or child development and one year of experience working with children; or

  • Associate’s degree in early childhood education or child development and two years of experience working with children; or

  • High school diploma and a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential with at least two years of experience working with children.

• Maintain current Child Abuse, Pennsylvania State Police, FBI, and National Sex Offender Registry (NSOR) clearances, as required by DHS.

• Maintain current Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification, Fire Safety training, and Mandated Reporter training.

• Complete a health assessment and TB test upon hire, with health assessments renewed as required.

• Complete a minimum of 12 hours of annual professional development as required by DHS.
