Shift Lead - Veterinary Nurse

Shift Lead Responsibilities The Shift Lead performs the duties of a CSC and/or veterinary assistant/technician while providing continuity and operational support across all shifts. The role balances 20% leadership duties with 80% paraprofessional responsibilities, adapting to the hospital’s needs each day. Paraprofessional Responsibilities (≈80%) Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team. Act as a CSC and/or veterinary assistant/technician, recruiting new clients and promoting hospital services. Route clients and pets to ensure superior client care and maximum productivity of the veterinary medical team. Increase the number of pets seen by the team through efficient operations, supporting wellness plan clients. Provide professional, efficient, and exceptional service—welcome clients, educate them about pet health, perform routine procedures, and monitor hospitalized or surgical pets as permitted by state practice acts. Support veterinarians and veterinary technicians by acting as extra eyes, ears, and hands to maximize quality pet care and productivity. Apply technical skills within state practice acts and NAVTA guidelines for veterinary assistant duties. Conduct necessary administrative functions. Leadership Responsibilities (≈20%) Assist the Practice Manager in developing an efficient, productive hospital team that delivers high‑quality care while following all protocols and legal requirements. Support labor management by adjusting paraprofessional schedules on a shift‑by‑shift basis. Help select, train, and supervise the paraprofessional team, ensuring quality medical care, superior client service, associate engagement, and maximum productivity. Create an environment that encourages associates to excel and feel valued. Perform other job duties as assigned. Compensation The pay range for this role is $20.06 - $25.64 per hour, with the specific rate determined by experience, skill level, and education.
