Physician Resident Provider - Hospitalist

Department of Veterans Affairs

Job Description

Job Description

Job Opportunity

Become a part of our team as a Physician Resident Provider - Hospitalist at our organization located in San Francisco, CA!

This role as a Surgical Hospitalist will serve as the lead PRP. The position is essential for ensuring reliable nighttime coverage and maintaining an adequate number of PRP physicians.

The current group of Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) at our facility consists of General Surgery residents from the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), Stanford, or East Bay who are currently in their research years. Due to the work hour requirements for residents, there is an increased demand for PRP coverage, alongside a limited pool of available physicians. New guidelines stipulate that residents will not be able to cover shifts if PRP physicians are unavailable. Furthermore, under the revised model, PRP physicians will handle most of the calls during the week, which will lead to a significant increase in hand-offs unless we implement a more stable coverage strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the care of surgical inpatients, including those in wards, transitional care units, and intensive care units, ensuring proper documentation in medical records.
  • Assess surgical consults in both the hospital and emergency department.
    • All consults must be reviewed with the Chief Resident (or Fellow) and Attending immediately after evaluation.
  • Provide on-call surgical coverage, which includes:
    • Performing basic surgical procedures such as wound vac changes, surgical wound debridement, and wound care.
    • Triage surgical issues, conduct compartment pressure assessments, and assist in the operating room.
Benefits and Features
  • Salary Range: Approximately $315K (negotiable based on qualifications, credentials, and experience).
  • Work Schedule: Night and weekend shifts.
  • Paid Time Off: 50-55 days annually, including 26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, and potentially 5 days for CME.

Retirement: Traditional federal pension with a 5-year vesting period and a federal 401K with contributions up to 5% from the organization.

Insurance: Comprehensive federal health, vision, dental, term life, and long-term care insurance (many programs can be continued into retirement).

Licensure: Must possess one full and unrestricted medical license from any U.S. state or territory.

CME: Potential reimbursement of up to $1,000 per year (must be full-time and board certified).

Malpractice: Liability protection provided at no cost, including tail coverage.

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and minimal restrictions on moonlighting.

We invite you to explore the opportunity of working with us in San Francisco, CA. Here, you can engage in a meaningful mission while enjoying a vibrant community filled with new experiences. Join a team that prioritizes a healthy work-life balance and take pride in your role in honoring those who have served.
