Your Mission:
As a Sandblaster you will prepare fabricated structural steel and other metal surfaces for painting and protective coatings. The position involves using industrial abrasive blasting equipment to remove rust, mill scale, corrosion, existing coatings, and other surface contaminants.
You will also perform related surface-preparation techniques such as masking, etching, chemical cleaning, and abrasive treatment. The role requires proper operation and upkeep of blasting equipment, tools, ventilation systems, compressed-air systems, and personal protective equipment. On-the-job training will be provided as needed.
The position requires an intermediate level of blasting ability, along with the judgment to work from established procedures and specifications while handling a variety of tasks.
Explore the Depth of the Role:
- Operate industrial sandblasting and abrasive-blasting equipment.
- Prepare structural steel and metal alloys for paint or protective coatings.
- Remove rust, mill scale, corrosion, old coatings, dirt, and other contaminants.
- Use abrasive and chemical surface-preparation methods, including masking and etching.
- Load appropriate abrasives, such as sand, grit, or shot, into blasting equipment.
- Adjust equipment controls and pressure to achieve the required blasting results.
- Manually direct blasting nozzles over large components and handle smaller parts within blasting cabinets or enclosed equipment.
- Load and position parts on racks, in cabinets, or other designated blasting equipment.
- Protect designated surfaces by properly masking areas before blasting.
- Inspect completed surfaces to ensure they meet applicable specifications.
- Clean and maintain sandblasting equipment, tools, ventilation systems, compressed-air systems, and work areas.
- Follow verbal and written instructions and communicate important information to the next shift.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
- All other related duties as assigned.
Mission Readiness:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Intermediate experience with sandblasting or abrasive blasting preferred.
- Experience working with structural steel or fabricated metal is preferred.
- Familiarity with general structural steel products.
- Experience with surface preparation, including abrasive and chemical techniques, masking, and etching.
- Ability to read and understand written instructions and specifications.
- Good verbal communication skills.
- Mechanical aptitude and the ability to operate and maintain industrial equipment.
- Ability to work independently using sound judgment while following established procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and a dependable, industrious work ethic.
- Ability to receive on-the-job training and learn additional processes as needed.

- May be required to stand, walk, sit, reach/pull/push with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel regularly.
- May lift or carry 50lbs. Weights exceeding 50lbs will require mechanical means to maneuver.
