EMR: Meditech
Patient Ratio: 1:4
Average Volume: Approximately 100 patients/day

Schedule

• Shifts: 11:00 AM–11:00 PM or 3:00 PM–3:00 AM
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
• Floating: No
• Orientation: 24 hours of unit-specific orientation

Certifications

• BLS
• ACLS
• PALS
• NIH
• TNCC recommended

Patient Population

The ED cares for a diverse patient population, including:

• Chest pain
• Abdominal pain
• Psychiatric patients
• Altered mental status (AMS)
• Stroke
• Trauma
• Pediatric patients

Clinical Environment

• Telemetry: Spacelabs
• Nurses are responsible for reading telemetry strips
• Vents: Yes; respiratory therapy manages ventilators
• RT available 24/7
• Pharmacy available 24/7
• Hospitalist coverage available
• IV team: No
• Nurse aides: Yes

Common Drips

Experience with the following drips is utilized:

• Propofol
• Levophed
• Heparin
• Nitroglycerin
• Insulin
• Cardizem

Additional Details

• Charge nurse role is not required for travelers.
• Approximately 100 patients are seen in the ED each day.
• Current hospital-issued scrub color: Ceil Blue
• Once the hospital returns to personal scrubs, the required color will be Navy .
• No floating to other units.
