Seasonal Lab/Field Intern

Position Overview The Mosquito Technician role provides a quality, professional service delivering mosquito surveillance and preventative services, including large‑scale spraying. The team ensures each customer has a positive experience while preventing spread of mosquito‑borne diseases. Responsibilities Inspect control zones for potential breeding habitats and mosquito larvae by visual inspection and dipping. Assess each site and apply appropriate control techniques: no action, source reduction, biological control, public education, or chemical control (larvicides/adulticides). Place and retrieve monitoring devices to assess mosquito populations. Record findings and control activities on log sheet and GPS unit, then enter data into VDCI database. Follow chemical labels, Safety Data Sheets, and handle chemicals per specifications. Adhere to safety and spill procedures, use required PPE. Communicate respectfully and knowledgeably with residents during inspections and public interactions. Operate equipment safely; maintain equipment and vehicle cleanliness. React promptly and effectively to changing conditions; perform other essential tasks as assigned. Use solid reading, writing, and verbal communication skills when presenting information internally or externally. Essential Job Functions Work outdoors and may be exposed to hazardous conditions: weather, uneven terrain, pesticides, dust, noise, insects, hazardous plants, wild or domestic animals. Comfortable with self‑directed work after training. Capable of lifting and handling items up to 50 pounds. Operate motor vehicle safely and keep vehicle and equipment clean. What You Need Attention to detail. Verbal and written communication skills. Motivation to learn and become pest‑control knowledgeable. High school diploma or GED; related experience or training, or equivalent combination. Valid driver's license from state of residence. Basic math skills for mixing on product labels. Required licenses/certificates (covered by us). Customer‑facing experience preferred. Base Pay Hourly: $16.00 – $25.00. Pay may vary based on location, skills, education, experience, overtime, incentives, commissions, performance, and route assignment.
