Strategic Account Director – Energy Software & Data Sales

We are partnering with a high-growth energy technology and data business seeking a Strategic Account Director to join its Financial Services sales team in San Francisco.

This is a senior enterprise sales role focused on selling energy software, data, analytics and SaaS-based solutions to financial services clients, including capital markets, investment firms, banks, asset managers, hedge funds, private equity, infrastructure investors and other financial institutions active in the energy sector.

The successful candidate will bring a strong track record of selling complex software or data solutions into sophisticated financial services buyers and will understand how energy market intelligence, analytics and workflow tools support investment decisions, risk management, capital allocation and commercial strategy.

The Role

As Strategic Account Director, you will own and grow relationships with senior stakeholders across financial services accounts, delivering insight-led, consultative sales conversations and aligning software, data and analytics solutions to client priorities.

You will be responsible for building pipeline, managing complex enterprise sales cycles, developing executive relationships, and driving new business, retention and account growth across a portfolio of high-value clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and expand relationships with financial services clients active in energy markets.
  • Sell enterprise SaaS, data, analytics and market intelligence solutions to capital markets and investment-led clients.
  • Develop targeted campaigns, executive briefings, partner relationships and tailored value propositions.
  • Deliver a relevant, insight-led point of view into every client interaction.
  • Engage effectively at C-suite, senior investment, commercial and technology stakeholder level.
  • Align solutions to client priorities, including investment strategy, market intelligence, risk management, operational efficiency and ROI.
  • Own the full sales lifecycle from prospecting and qualification through proposal, negotiation and close.
  • Drive account retention, upsell, cross-sell and long-term client growth.
  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline, with a disciplined approach to forecasting and CRM management.
  • Lead internal resources through complex sales pursuits, including solution specialists, product, customer success and leadership teams.
  • Consistently achieve or exceed assigned revenue targets while maintaining high levels of client satisfaction and professionalism.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a proven enterprise sales professional with experience selling energy software, data, analytics or market intelligence solutions into financial services clients.

You should bring:

  • 8–10+ years’ experience selling complex software, data, analytics or SaaS solutions.
  • Recent experience selling into financial services, capital markets, investment management, private equity, banking or trading-related clients.
  • Strong preference for candidates who have sold energy software, energy data, commodity data, power, renewables, oil & gas, infrastructure or market intelligence platforms.
  • Proven ability to sell to senior executives and build compelling business cases.
  • Strong consultative sales approach with excellent qualification, negotiation and closing skills.
  • Experience managing both new business and existing account growth.
  • Track record of meeting or exceeding revenue targets.
  • Ability to communicate complex data and technology solutions clearly to commercial, investment and executive audiences.
  • Strong pipeline generation discipline and ability to manage a 3.5x quota coverage model.
  • High level of professionalism, executive presence and client credibility.
  • Salesforce experience preferred.
  • Strategic selling methodology experience desirable, such as Miller Heiman, Sandler or Challenger.
