Qualifications:
Credentials: Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate
Education: Bachelor's degree in education or a related field (required); Master's degree (preferred).
Training or Experience Preferred: A minimum of three years of successful experience working in a high school setting (preferred).
Job Summary: Performs duties under the supervision of the building principal, focused primarily on student discipline, behavior management, and the promotion of a positive school culture. This position serves students across both the high school and middle school levels and requires a working knowledge of the unique developmental, social, and behavioral needs of adolescents in grades 6 12. Utilizes discretion, sound judgment, and strong communication skills to address student behavior in a fair, consistent, and supportive manner. This is not an assistant principal role; the primary focus is on student conduct, discipline, and behavioral support. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Terms of Employment: Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District. (180-day contract) Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Shawnee Board Policy on evaluation of personnel. - Communication skills (oral, written, or business); Communicates in clear, grammatically correct English.
- Composes correspondence; provides complex instructions; conducts interviews and investigations related to student behavior.
- Uses creativity when creating presentations and completing reports on student discipline and behavior trends.
- Contact with Others: Has regular contact with students, families, staff, and persons outside the district, which requires tact and diplomacy, as well as independent judgment when problem-solving and mediating conflict.
- Interprets policies and procedures based on experience, particularly as they relate to student conduct and discipline.
- Provides counseling, negotiates, or mediates conflict situations as appropriate.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress or emotionally charged situations involving student behavior.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the social-emotional and developmental differences between middle school and high school students.
- Manage student discipline across both high school and middle school campuses: investigate incidents, assign consequences, and communicate with families in line with district policies.
- Develop proactive, age-appropriate strategies to reduce behavior issues and build a positive school culture at both the middle and high school levels.
- Analyze discipline and attendance data at both campus levels to guide interventions and support students.
- Collaborate with staff and families to implement behavior plans and student supports tailored to the needs of grades 6 12 students.
- Maintain accurate, confidential discipline and attendance records for both middle and high school students.
- Support staff with classroom management and student behavior strategies appropriate for middle and high school environments.
- Monitor student attendance across both campuses to identify and address concerns.
- Supervise students during unstructured times (before/after school, hallways, lunch, passing periods, bus duty) at both the middle school and high school.
- Assist with school event supervision, logistics, and emergency procedures at both campuses.
- Coordinate with law enforcement and community agencies for student support across both grade levels.
- Serve as a liaison between school and home on behavior, conflict resolution, and support issues for both middle and high school families.
- Promote restorative practices, conflict resolution, and respectful conduct campus-wide at both buildings.
- Help define and communicate behavioral expectations and consequences appropriate to each campus level.
- Participate in after-school activities and events on a rotating basis with the leadership team at both campuses to ensure administrative presence and student supervision.
- Coordinate efforts and maintain consistent communication between both campuses to ensure aligned expectations and a seamless transition experience for students moving from middle to high school.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
- Fast-paced, high-interaction school environment across multiple campus locations.
- Must be visible and active in various areas of both school campuses throughout the day.
- Requires the ability to travel between the high school and middle school campuses as needed throughout the workday.
