Respiratory Therapist-(Nights, 7pm-7am) - $15k Sign on Bonus

Position Summary Provides Respiratory Care services in accordance with department policies. Administers, monitors, controls and evaluates complex life support systems that ventilate acute or chronically ill patients. Participates in hospital initiatives and projects. $15,000 Sign On Bonus (external candidates only) Position: Registered Respiratory Therapist Department: Respiratory Therapy Schedule: 36 hours, 3 nights per week, 7 p‑7 a Essential Responsibilities / Duties Conducts Respiratory Care services according to department policy and procedure, ensuring quality of care. Reviews patient chart and accurately interprets physician’s orders. Sets up appropriate equipment and medication needed for each test and therapy correctly, as observed and documented. Administers all tests, treatments and therapy as ordered, evidenced by hospital documentation, self‑audit, and supervisory review (e.g., oxygen administration, humidity therapy, airway management, resuscitation, mechanical ventilation, EKG testing). Documents every patient treatment administered in patient charts, noting response to therapy. Delivers, sets up, and safely operates mechanical ventilators and monitors patients on mechanical ventilation. Performs endotracheal suctioning and tracheal suctioning as needed. Makes patient rounds according to department schedules, observes patient condition, checks equipment operation, and makes adjustments as necessary. Removes and disassembles equipment from patient rooms following department policies. Recognizes medical problems (e.g., adverse reactions to therapy) and discontinues treatment if indicated, notifying the physician immediately and applying emergency protocols. Assists physicians during cardiac arrest to establish and maintain a patient airway. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills needed for all age groups of patients served (neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric). Notifies supervisor when patients outside regular age groups are present and seeks assistance from qualified staff. Performs advanced Respiratory Therapy assignments. Attends and participates in collaborative clinical committees. Assists in developing and implementing protocols, clinical pathways, policies, and procedures. Provides in‑service education to Respiratory Therapy Department members at least annually. Assists in developing quality‑improvement indicators, collecting data, analyzing results, and suggesting corrective action. Performs advanced clinical and technical assignments with critical‑care patients. Attends Advanced Cardiac Life Support training as directed. Assists with bronchoscopy following department policy. Performs pulmonary function testing as directed. Performs tracheotomy tube changes. Performs arterial blood gas punctures and/or arterial line sampling. Analyzes blood gas samples according to policy and reports results to appropriate personnel. Performs endotracheal intubation following department policy. Maintains clinical competency in Respiratory Care to ensure use of up‑to‑date methods (self‑audit, documentation, supervisory review). Maintains current Massachusetts License as a Respiratory Therapist and registration by the National Board of Respiratory Care. Attends all mandatory continuous education classes during the year. Assumes Charge Therapist responsibilities when directed by supervisor. Participates in non‑assigned continuing education to meet professional development and license requirements. Attends scheduled staff meetings or, if unable, reads staff meeting minutes. Accepts membership in assigned department or hospital committees or task forces. Demonstrates knowledge of patient clinical needs and contacts appropriate personnel to meet identified needs. Education Must have completed a two‑year AMA‑approved program in Respiratory Care prior to start date. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Required Current license for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Respiratory Therapist. Registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Experience Two years of Respiratory Therapist experience preferred; new graduates welcome to apply. Knowledge And Skills Knowledge of basic medical terminology. Understanding of anatomy, physiology, microbiology, pulmonary physics, pulmonary pathophysiology, advanced respiratory care, mathematics, blood‑gas chemistry, and pharmacology. Read and communicate in English. Ability to prioritize tasks, work in a team, and communicate effectively with patients, families, and health‑care professionals. Caring and sympathetic attitude and ability to explain therapy and goals. Basic computer proficiency. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of personal/health‑sensitive information. Physical ability to meet core job requirements for the practice setting and patient populations served. Compensation Range $41.52–$55.88 per hour. The range reflects minimum qualifications; final offer considers education, experience, licensure, and other factors.
