Staff Accountant: GAAP, Budgets & Close (Hybrid)

Staff Accountant Full-Time | Exempt Hybrid – Columbus, OH Salary Range: $55,000–$65,000 Overview The Staff Accountant supports day-to-day accounting operations and plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records and reporting. This role is well-suited for candidates with a solid accounting foundation who enjoy working with debits and credits, reconciling accounts, analyzing budgets, and partnering with others across the organization. Prior experience with grant or nonprofit accounting is helpful, but not required. Key Responsibilities Record and review journal entries, ensuring accuracy of debits and credits Perform month-end close activities, including bank reconciliations and account analysis Track fixed assets, including additions, retirements, and capitalization Prepare and analyze budgets vs. actuals and investigate variances Support financial reporting in accordance with GAAP Assist with audits and year-end financial reporting Maintain accurate records for various funding sources, including grants when applicable Prepare internal financial reports for leadership Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure expenses are properly coded and supported Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field strongly preferred 2+ years of hands-on accounting experience Strong understanding of GAAP and core accounting principles Experience working with budgets, fixed assets, and account reconciliations Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, formulas) Experience with QuickBooks Online is a strong plus Grant or nonprofit accounting experience is a plus, but not required
