Our organizational culture promotes a sense of welcome, inclusion, and connection.Integrity: We value respect and honesty, working to fulfill our mission with honor and ethical principles.Job DescriptionAbout the RoleThe Botanical Art Registration Intern is an opportunity , funded by the Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Science Initiative to support students aspiring to work in museums and provide them with hands on experience in a museum setting with professionals in Art Registration. Our goal will be to complete a physical and digital inventory of the Botanical Study Collection. There will be opportunities to work with TMS and handle Botanical Study Collection materials.The ideal candidate is proactive, highly organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This is a 9-week, part -time opportunity from June 1 – July 31, perfect for someone who is interested in pursuing a career in Museum Registration or Collections Management.S/he/they will demonstrate a background of working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, geographic and socioeconomic backgrounds, using a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible approach.Essential DutiesParticipate in i nternship programming led by the Internship CoordinatorThe Registration Intern will assist the Associate Registrar for Botanical Art in completing inventories for an upcoming viewing stone exhibition, creating and updating database records as needed. Inventory work will include: handling artworks, entering data into The Museum System (TMS), photographically documenting artworks and creating and/or updating physical object files.While inventorying, they will evaluate object packing and make recommendations for improvement.They will also create digital asset management systems ( DAMS) packages for curatorial review and attend meetings with the Botanical Art Curators.Following training by Preservation and under supervision of a registrar, handles artwork.Beyond working on the Botanical Art Collection, the intern will gain exposure through one-on-ones and shadowing other areas of Registration (Permanent Collections, Loans and Exhibitions) as well as Registration specializations that are unique to the Huntington’s collections.Following training by Preservation and under supervision of a registrar, handles artwork.May perform other related duties as assigned.Candidate Requirements and ExperienceKnowledge, skills, and abilities:Must be a current university student (18+) or recent graduate (1 year max) whose field of study aligns with this interest opportunity.Interest in museum collection care and exhibitions.Professional attitude and appearance.Ability to work both independently and within a team.Strong communication and organizational skills .Interest in Huntington Collections.Preferred:Experience working in collections management systems.Experience in art handling.Working ConditionsTasks will require climbing, standing, stooping, and typing.Physical effort and lifting up to 20 lbs.Work may require movement between buildings.The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this internship .
