Pediatric School-Based PT Tuition Reimbursement

Manhattan Star Academy, a member of the YAI Network, provides elementary education for students 3-21 years of age with intellectual developmental disabilities and learning delays, including children on the autism spectrum. Our mission is to deliver high‑quality services in a comprehensive, developmentally based program that focuses on the whole child, integrating all domains of child development. Key Functions & Responsibilities Provides physical therapy–based services to assigned caseload in various settings (PT gym, community, playground, home, therapeutic pool) consistent with students’ documented therapy goals and IEPs. Develops and implements safe, appropriate therapeutic interventions, modifying treatment programs to ensure maximal student capabilities through ongoing evaluation and monitoring. Evaluates, documents, and monitors service provision and student progress in a timely manner, in line with organizational policies, governing bodies, and using language understandable to caregivers. Provides children with adaptive equipment, lower extremity splints or orthotics, conducting regular checks to ensure proper fit and functionality. Communicates regularly with parents, school staff, and medical professionals about health, equipment use, participation, positioning, motor development, safety, and mobility. Provides coverage for physical therapy services to students outside of assigned caseload as requested or assigned. Facilitates therapeutic adjunct programs (standing, lying, walking) and coordinates with related service and academic programs. Provides assessment, recommendations, and intervention in mobility and positioning, documenting or updating annual therapy goals as needed. Assists with assessments related to orthotics, podiatry, or durable medical equipment, including clinic participation, documentation, and follow‑up with equipment teams. Provides PT‑related training to classroom and support staff regarding transfers and equipment use, including Hoyer lifts. Completes necessary documentation, including trip and home visit slips, and documents departmental in‑services and daily notes. Follows all standards of practice for Physical Therapy and regulatory requirements set by the New York State Department of Health, Board of Education, and other governing bodies. Adheres to all school and department standards, policies, and procedures. Attends and participates in scheduled supervision, department meetings, and activities. May attend student field trips to assist with ensuring safety of students in various settings off school grounds. Performs all other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualification Requirements Including education, experience, licensure/certification, and essential physical capabilities such as lifting, assisting lifting, standing, etc. Valid license and current registration as a Physical Therapist issued by the NYS Department of Education. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. High degree of personal and professional integrity. Ability to remain focused, flexible, and work independently in a fast‑paced environment. Collaborative, solution‑oriented mindset with ability to make sound decisions and resolve conflicts. Organization and attention to detail with ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, specifically Word and PowerPoint. Preferred Qualification Requirements Doctorate in Physical Therapy from an accredited school, recognized by the American Physical Therapy Association. Two years of experience in Pediatric Physical Therapy, ideally with school‑aged children with significant disabilities. Research experience and/or clinical experience with children with brain‑based disorders and neurological involvement and/or I/DD. Pediatric Clinical Specialist Certification. Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT) training, experience, and/or certification. Compensation $70,000 to $75,000 per year; pro‑rated salary if part‑time. Tuition reimbursement.
