Woodcraft Rangers, founded in 1922 in Los Angeles, has a mission of guiding young people as they explore pathways to purposeful lives. Camp Woodcraft, one of California's original and most inclusive camp programs, serves as a year-round outdoor education and retreat center in Big Bear. From science-based school retreats, summer sleepaway camp, and wellness retreats to family camps and community gatherings, we provide immersive opportunities for young people to connect, learn, and grow in nature.

The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, patient, and committed to creating a safe and positive camp experience for children. They enjoy working with youth, are adaptable in a dynamic environment, and can model respect, responsibility, and teamwork. Strong communication and collaboration skills, a sense of initiative, and a passion for supporting camper growth and fun are essential.

Cabin Leaders play a key role in creating a safe, fun, and supportive camp experience for campers. This position focuses on camper development by fostering social skills, responsibility, confidence, leadership, and positive communal living. Cabin Leaders are responsible for the daily care, supervision, and well-being of campers, while serving as positive role models who follow and reinforce camp policies, routines and expectations.

Cabin Leaders actively participate in planning and leading camp programs and activities, both within their unit and across the entire camp community. They assist in a variety of program areas, help implement schedules and behavior expectations, and support evening programs, special events, and overnights. Cabin Leaders work collaboratively with the camp core team to ensure all safety, health, and emergency procedures are followed, while making sure campers are engaged, supported, and having fun throughout their camp experience.

Minimum High School Diploma or GED (AA Degree in Child Development or a related field preferred); prior experience working with groups of K-12 students in an academic or recreational setting preferred.

Must be First Aid/CPR certified. (Training provided by Woodcraft Rangers)

TB Clearance

Successful completion of livescan/background check with DOJ, FBI

Must submit health history records prior to first day of work.

Possess attributes that contribute to camper success (enthusiasm, integrity, compassion, trustworthiness, patience and respect)

Experience working with youth in a camp environment preferred, a minimum of one year working with youth in any setting.

Ability to perform traditional camp activities (hike, chants, stand for extended periods of time, etc.)

Possess the cognitive, auditory, and visual abilities to perform described duties at camp

Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects

Must be able to stay at camp in Big Bear Valley, CA during camp sessions

Ability to lift, carry, or move camp supplies and equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation

Ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations, with or without reasonable accommodations

Primarily outdoor, sleepaway camp setting with regular exposure to varying weather conditions

Work takes place in cabins, dining areas, trails, activity spaces, and other shared camp facilities

High-energy environment involving frequent interaction with children, staff, and groups

Schedule may include early mornings, evenings, overnight supervision, and weekends during camp sessions

Noise levels may vary and can be moderate to high during activities and events

Close collaboration with camp leadership and staff as part of a team-based environment.

$130/day stipend
