Overview Missouri Baptist Medical Center, an acute care hospital in St. Louis County, offers a full continuum of medical and surgical services, including heart care, cancer, women and infants, breast health, gastrointestinal, orthopaedic, stroke, therapy, wound and pain management services. The hospital has a 24‑hour adult emergency department and a separate pediatric emergency department in collaboration with St. Louis Children’s Hospital. The dialysis unit provides dialysis and ultrafiltration for hospital inpatients on chronic dialysis and those requiring acute dialysis. The unit has six stations monitored by an RN staff. This position is full‑time 12‑hour day/evening shifts, requires taking call 1‑2 times a week, including every 3rd Saturday and some Sunday calls. Staff hours are staggered to maintain patient coverage. The unit opens at 06:30 and closes when the last procedure is completed. Preferred Qualifications / Role Purpose Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of nursing care standards. Responsibilities Promotes patient and family‑centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and families on managing their illness or injury, post‑treatment home care needs, and medication administration. Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development. Develops, implements, and documents individual care plans with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team, patient, family, or caregiver in accordance with established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the care plan across the continuum of care. Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assesses patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care—including values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population‑specific needs. BJC has determined this is a safety‑sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
