Job Description
This role focuses on installing, wiring, and maintaining automated industrial machinery and control systems, with a strong emphasis on electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical troubleshooting. You will build and support electrical control panels, program and debug PLCs and HMIs, and ensure reliable operation of industrial equipment both in the field and in the shop. The position requires extensive travel to customer sites, where you will perform installations, commissioning, and service work while collaborating closely with engineering, quality, and production teams.
Responsibilities
- Install, wire, and troubleshoot automated industrial machines to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Design, build, and troubleshoot electrical control panels in compliance with NEC and NFPA standards.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts to support installation and troubleshooting activities.
- Program, modify, and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, and industrial control systems using ladder logic and other programming methods.
- Configure and troubleshoot industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP and Modbus.
- Support motor control systems including variable frequency drives (VFDs), motor starters, relays, transformers, circuit breakers, switches, and sensors.
- Use diagnostic tools, including multi-meters, to troubleshoot AC and DC electrical systems accurately and safely.
- Assist customers and field service technicians with machine troubleshooting, modem/VPN connectivity, and remote technical support.
- Build, test, calibrate, and troubleshoot hydraulic systems to meet specified pressure, flow, and performance requirements.
- Read and interpret hydraulic schematics and technical drawings to assemble and service hydraulic systems.
- Assemble hoses, fittings, and hydraulic lines using proper procedures and best practices.
- Perform system pressure checks, flushing, and leak testing to ensure safe and reliable hydraulic operation.
- Verify that all hydraulic components meet quality and dimensional standards before installation and use.
- Support in-factory engineering, quality, and production teams by providing hands-on technical expertise.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including wiring diagrams, schematics, and operating procedures.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in both shop and field settings.
- Adhere to all company safety policies and applicable industry regulations while performing all duties.
- Travel extensively to customer sites to support installations, commissioning, troubleshooting, and service work.
- Work overtime, weekends, and nights as needed to meet customer and project requirements.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1–3 years of experience working with hydraulic systems.
- Experience with industrial electrical controls and automation systems.
- Working knowledge of PLC ladder logic.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control panel layouts, and hydraulic schematics.
- Working understanding of AC/DC electrical theory.
- Ability to fully utilize a multi-meter and other diagnostic tools for troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience with control wiring, sensors, motors, VFDs, relays, terminal blocks, and transformers.
- Mechanical and electrical aptitude with proven troubleshooting and repair experience.
- Experience in industrial maintenance and field service environments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to use hand and power tools, including drills, screw guns, reciprocating saws, and fish tape.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced technical environment.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, kneel, crouch, and crawl as required by the job.
- Adequate close and peripheral vision to safely perform technical tasks.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Two-year technical degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
- Experience with Rockwell Automation software is preferred, including RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5000, RSView 32, PanelBuilder, and FactoryTalk.
- Familiarity with NEC standards for control panels and field wiring.
- Prior knowledge of basic hydraulics beyond the minimum required experience.
- Experience with pneumatics and preventive maintenance in industrial settings.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and industrial drawings.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methods in a fast-paced technical environment.

Work Environment
This role primarily supports an indoor manufacturing plant environment, with work performed both in the shop and at customer sites. Conditions range from cold and dry to hot and humid, and you may be exposed to noisy environments, flashing lights, strong odors, and active industrial equipment. The position typically involves working 60–70 hours per week, with approximately 80% travel to customer locations and 20% of time spent in the shop. You will regularly use industrial tools, diagnostic equipment, and control systems while adhering to safety standards and maintaining a professional appearance appropriate for manufacturing and customer-facing environments.
