Key Responsibilities- Perform routine and specialized MRI imaging procedures under general supervision.
- Exhibit clinical proficiency in MRI across diverse locations and patient demographics. Choose suitable technical parameters based on individual patient requirements and demonstrate the necessary knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care. Conduct IV access and administer contrast in accordance with facility protocols. Assist with invasive procedures guided by MRI.
- Engage in departmental and organizational initiatives aimed at performance improvement, enhancing workflows, patient experience, quality, and safety, thereby improving both patient care and operational efficiency. Actively participate in training and educational activities for students and staff.
- Ensure a safe and compliant work environment following the institutional MR Safety Program. Screen all patients, adhere to conditional scanning protocols, and prepare patients safely for MRI procedures. Guarantee proper patient positioning to minimize the risk of burns and imaging artifacts by utilizing appropriate padding and coils. Safeguard the MR environment by limiting access to authorized personnel and preventing ferromagnetic devices from entering Zone 4.
- Manage departmental supplies and inventory. Alert the appropriate personnel when supplies need to be ordered from external vendors. Document and report equipment and environmental issues as per policy. Conduct equipment quality control procedures and maintain necessary documentation.
- Transport patients to the MRI scanner and set up the examination room. Confirm physician orders, patient preparation, and the rationale for the exam to ensure adherence to appropriate scanning protocols. Communicate effectively with patients, gather patient histories, address inquiries, and explain procedures to enhance patient understanding and comfort. Process completed exams for interpretation.
- Conduct quality assurance activities, including ACR-required QA phantom testing. Identify and report equipment malfunctions, ensuring timely follow-up and corrective actions by repair services. Address clinical and non-clinical issues and escalate concerns to the appropriate leadership when necessary.
- Provide patient education and support, including preparing patients for procedures and addressing their physical and psychological needs. Escalate concerns through the proper channels when required.
- Prioritize patient flow and coordinate care through consistent communication with patients, care team members, and families. Document patient care activities in electronic health record systems and ensure timely distribution of final images to the PACS system for interpretation.
- Consistently demonstrate professionalism in actions and communication, embodying the organization’s SPIRIT values and fostering a respectful and supportive atmosphere for patients, families, and colleagues. Comply with ARRT/ARMRIT Standards of Ethics.
- Apply knowledge of MRI principles and practices, including anatomy and physiology, patient positioning, MRI physics, and patient care. Adhere to Joint Commission, state, federal, organizational, and departmental regulatory and compliance standards.
- Associate’s degree required; or
- Certification in Radiologic Technology or MRI from a program accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) required.
- Three (3) to four (4) years of MRI experience required.
- Must be capable of independently performing all necessary MRI protocols.
- ARMRIT Registered Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist certification required upon hire; or
- ARRT (MRI) certification required upon hire.
- Internal candidates with 10+ years of MRI scanning experience may be considered in lieu of certification requirements.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers required upon hire from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross.
- Understanding of, or ability to learn, transverse and cross-sectional anatomical and pathological presentations.
- Ability to perform, or learn, the technical operations associated with MRI equipment and procedures.
- Capability to work effectively in high-pressure and emergency situations.
This position offers a competitive salary range of USD $35.68 - USD $64.71 per hour.
