Responsibilities include food production and service, purchasing, storage, inventory, equipment and facility management, fiscal management, personnel management, sanitation and safety, public relations and communication, and additional job functions. Reports to the school principal and Child Nutrition Director. Key Responsibilities Food Production and Service Schedule work, follow planned menus with occasional substitutions. Apply quality standards and quantity controls, observe food preparation and presentation, monitor excess serving and waste. Complete Production Record daily, display food to reflect school and seasonal activities, plan use of leftover foods. Purchasing, Storage and Inventory Requisition foods and supplies weekly, verify cost, quantity and quality of items received. Advise supervisor on improper quality/condition, set up correct storage, inventory items using established system, rotate stock using FIFO. Monitor inventory for quality control. Equipment and Facility Management Train and oversee Point of Sale Computer Operations. Oversee equipment use, request repairs or replacements, maintain sanitation and safety, make corrections as needed. Fiscal Management Collect and reconcile meal monies daily, make bank deposits. Ensure audit requirements are met, prepare meal records and reports, submit reports timely, review monthly financial reports. Personnel Management and Supervision Develop work schedule and assign duties. Provide on‑the‑job training in equipment use, food production, sanitation, HACCP, storage and record keeping. Evaluate performance, counsel employees, recommend discipline, conduct staff meetings monthly. Supervise completion of time sheets, enforce policies per Child Nutrition Employee Handbook. Sanitation and Safety Develop and implement cleaning schedule. Enforce sanitation procedures, dress/hygiene codes, and avoidance of food contamination. Apply HACCP practices daily. Public Relations and Communication Provide information on the program to students, parents, and staff. Respond to concerns and complaints. Assist in planning special functions involving the program. Maintain positive relationship with school principal and Child Nutrition Office. Provide nutrition education activities to classroom students. Plan and carry out promotional activities, communicate successes and problems of the program. Additional Job Functions Attend meetings, workshops, and seminars for improvement of job competencies. Perform other duties as assigned by the Child Nutrition Director or school principal. Minimum Training and Experience Graduation from high school or equivalent. Four years of experience in food service management, or assistant manager experience with Franklin County Schools Child Nutrition, or a certificate in manager training course, FCS CN “Back to School” training with computer experience preferred, or any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Minimum Qualifications or Standards Physical ability to operate cooking equipment and lift up to 50 pounds, moderate physical demand. Ability to judge composite characteristics of things. Interpersonal communication skill. Language ability to read and complete forms. Intelligence to apply common sense understanding. Verbal aptitude – efficient communication in standard English. Numerical aptitude – add, subtract, divide, multiply, process transactions quickly. Motor coordination – use of kitchen utensils, appliances, registers and computers. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Thorough knowledge of food preparation and sanitation/safety standards. Thorough knowledge of Child Nutrition Federal Meal Program procedures. Basic mathematics and measuring conversions. Skill in the use of food preparation and cleaning equipment. Ability to develop schedules for personnel and material resources. Ability to train personnel on equipment use, food production, presentation, sanitation, storage, and record keeping. Ability to coordinate activities in preparation and serving. Ability to inventory and record information accurately. Ability to comprehend and apply written and verbal guidelines and explain them to others. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
