One system.The RoleWe are hiring a Infrastructure Engineer to own the distributed systems, data architecture, and observability that the rest of the platform runs on. This is an independent contractor role with the opportunity to convert to full-time. You will work directly with the founders and a small senior engineering team on systems that move real money for our customers every day.This is a senior, high-ownership role. We are looking for an engineer who has designed and operated production infrastructure end-to-end, makes sound architectural decisions independently, and cares deeply about reliability, correctness, and performance under load. You should be comfortable owning systems from design through deployment and on-call with minimal oversight.ResponsibilitiesDesign and operate the event-driven backbone that connects payment flows, webhooks, and asynchronous processingOwn database architecture, schema design, and query performance on PostgreSQL for high-throughput transactional workloadsBuild and tune queueing, retries, idempotency, and scheduling for billing and capture pipelinesStand up observability — metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting — so we catch problems before customers doDesign CI/CD pipelines and deployment infrastructure for safe, frequent releasesManage cloud infrastructure across AWS and Vercel, with an eye on cost, scaling, and resilienceMake architectural decisions on distributed systems and document them clearly for the teamMentor engineers and contribute to engineering best practicesRequired QualificationsFive or more years of professional software engineering experience, with a track record of designing and operating production infrastructureStrong backend engineering skills, with deep experience in Node.js and TypeScript (NestJS or a comparable framework)Deep experience with relational databases, including SQL, PostgreSQL, schema design, and query optimizationExperience designing distributed systems and event-driven architecturesHands-on experience with AWS services such as EventBridge, SQS, ECS, and CloudWatchWorking knowledge of queueing, idempotency, retries, and asynchronous processing patternsExperience building CI/CD pipelines and managing deployment infrastructureDemonstrated ability to operate independently in early-stage or high-velocity environmentsStrong written and verbal communication skillsPreferred QualificationsExperience operating infrastructure for payment or other money-movement systems where correctness is non-negotiableExperience with infrastructure-as-code and containerized deploymentsFamiliarity with observability platforms and distributed tracingExperience scaling PostgreSQL and designing for high-throughput transactional View email address on click.appcast.io · New York or remoteOwn the rails.45 E 20th St, New York, NY 10003J-18808-Ljbffr
