Title: Groundsman

Reports to: Electric Line Supervisor

Mt. Pleasant Municipal Utilities, a growing community of approximately 9,000 in the heart of Southeast Iowa, is currently recruiting for a Line Mechanic – (Groundsman).

MPMU provides electric, water, and generation services to our customers.

Basic Function:

Works in conjunction with journeyman lineman. Provides assistance in electric distribution installation and maintenance.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Good working knowledge of utility specifications.
• Complete working knowledge of all safety procedures of groundman's work and as much as can be acquired of lineman's safety procedures.
• Working knowledge of the system including substation areas, phasing, feeds, loop and maps.
• Do groundman's work in all areas of primary and secondary lines.
• Do brush cutting, small trees, and right-of-way clearing as required.
• Do groundman's work on guys, anchors, grounds, ground rods and framing of poles.
• Do back filling and straightening of poles.
• Be able to assist in all URD work.
• Be able to assist in locating primary and secondary URD lines and also in locating faults.
• Have equipment and trucks ready to leave for job site while supervisor gets orders for the day's work.
• Responsible for reporting any potential hazard and accident information to electric supervisor.
• See that work area is left in a clean and non-hazardous condition.
• Effectively carry out cordial relationships with the general public, contractors, city and utility representatives and others to present a professional image to the general public.
• Take proper care of utility equipment and tools.
• Responsible for preparing material slips and daily time reports for self.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.
• Subject to a response time of 30 minutes or less, between the employee's primary residence and the Utility's headquarters

Qualifications:

• Minimum high school graduate or GED equivalent preferred.
• Must have valid drivers license including a CDL with Class A endorsement
• Must be able to acquire Class A CDL within 6 months of hire
  .
• Must be able to perform physical requirements of the job.
