ECMO Specialist

About the Role The ECMO Specialist performs functions necessary for the support, measurement, and/or supplementation of the cardiopulmonary and/or circulatory system of the patient through the use of ECMO policies and procedures. The Specialist performs advanced technical work in the selection, preparation, operation, and maintenance of the ECMO circuitry and ancillary equipment, and works closely with the attending physician in extra‑corporeal practices. Responsibilities Prepares for cases. Manages the equipment and supply maintenance. Prepares ECMO support and performs necessary functions to support treatment of the cardiopulmonary and/or circulatory system. Provides a safe environment and delivery of care. Completes didactic and clinical components of the ECMO training program within established time frames. May be assigned additional duties. Minimum Requirements Education: Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy required, or graduate of an accredited school of perfusion, or graduate of an accredited nursing program. Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred. Experience: No experience required. Licensure: Perfusion – Certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (new graduates must be certified within four exam offerings). RN – Licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Respiratory Therapy – Licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required. Physical Demands Job requires sitting or standing for prolonged periods, frequent bending, stooping, traveling, climbing (ladder or steps), and reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive). Proficient communication, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift, push, or pull > 100 lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, fumes, heat, noise, cold, blood or body fluids, and infectious disease. Pay Range Hourly: $50.00 – $66.19.
