Job Title: Clinical Research Nurse

Location: Chicago, IL (100% Onsite)

Duration: 4 months

Employment Type: Part-Time

Schedule: 3–4 days per week

Weekly Hours: 24–32 hours

Typical Hours: 8:00 AM–2:00 PM or 8:00 AM–4:00 PM. The schedule can be discussed during the interview.

Required License: Current, valid Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license

License Verification: The RN license must be verified.

Job Description:

• Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), Co-Investigators, and Research Manager (RM), the Clinical Research Nurse supports the daily operations of complex clinical trials and helps ensure compliance with federal, institutional, and study-specific requirements.
• This role involves coordinating clinical research activities, providing direct patient care, maintaining study documentation, supporting regulatory compliance, and collaborating with investigators, sponsors, and institutional departments.
• The Clinical Research Nurse also serves as a clinical resource, helping improve research practices and supporting the administrative, financial, personnel, and compliance aspects of clinical studies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate and participate in clinical research trials conducted by the Institute for Population and Precision Health.
• Assist in planning and implementing clinical study goals, objectives, and patient enrollment strategies.
• Conduct participant assessments, including physical assessments, vital signs, and the collection of medical, surgical, social, and behavioral histories.
• Perform phlebotomy and other clinical research procedures as required.
• Develop and implement study procedures, maintain accurate study records, track study progress, and perform quality assurance activities.
• Compile, review, and analyze clinical research data to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Coordinate with medical staff, university departments, ancillary departments, and satellite facilities.
• Maintain current knowledge of study protocols, internal standard operating procedures (SOPs), and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.
• Ensure clinical research activities comply with study protocols and applicable federal and institutional regulations.
• Provide investigators and research personnel with guidance on protocol requirements and clinical research practices.
• Maintain regulatory documentation and assist with submissions and reports to the Institutional Review Board (IRB), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and Data and Safety Review Committee.
• Prepare for and assist with audits, inspections, and monitoring visits conducted by sponsors or regulatory agencies.
• Serve as a clinical resource and contribute to improving clinical research practices, quality, and accountability across the department.
• Apply critical thinking and sound judgment to evaluate problems and identify appropriate solutions.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the State of Illinois.
• Ability to use basic computer applications and learn new software as needed.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize multiple assignments.
• Ability to read, understand, and implement clinical trial protocols.
• Knowledge of patient care fundamentals, including aseptic principles and techniques.
• Ability to provide direct patient care in a professional and respectful manner.
• Fundamental knowledge of clinical research and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
• Ability to read and interpret medical documents and clinical instruments.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous clinical research experience.
• Experience with phlebotomy and intravenous (IV) line placement.
• Experience using Epic or other electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
• Experience participating in protocol reviews and clinical trial evaluations.
• Strong data management and quality assurance skills.

Work Environment and Additional Requirements:

• Work is performed in an office and clinical setting.
• Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required for enrollment events at community partner locations.
• Travel may be required to support enrollment events at community partner locations.
• The position is fully onsite.
