Reports to: Director of Maintenance, Assistant Superintendent, Superintendent

Employment Status: Full time 12 months

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Record of good attendance and strong work ethic.
• Evidence of good moral character as established in section 3301-20-03 of the Ohio Administrative Code.
• Valid driver's license and insurable through employer.
• Refrigeration journeyman's license required
• Prior related work experience required.
• Willingness to work with students, staff, and community members.
• Willingness to continue training if required.
• Ability to take responsibility for your own area if the supervisor is absent.
• HVAC vocational training diploma or technical degree preferred.
• Ability to do physical labor as the job requires, including lifting 75 pounds, climbing ladders, and performing overhead work and any other work associated with the job.
• Ability to work in hot, cold, confined-space, and high-noise environments.
• Demonstrates ability to complete assigned tasks with urgency and efficiency to meet schedules.
• Experienced and proficient in building automation, preferably the Building Logix or Trane systems.
• Organized and detail-oriented to handle multiple priorities and requests with minimal supervision.
• Minimum of five years commercial HVAC service experience.
• Alternatives to the above qualifications that the Board of Education may find appropriate.

General Description:

As an HVAC Technician, responsible for O&M activities for all building mechanical systems and other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

• Tests and repairs environmental systems by operating the systems; identifying malfunctions; repairing or replacing seals, parts, and components.
• Demonstrates ability to test, repair, and/or maintain the following equipment:
• Thermostat equipment.
• Univents.
• Commercial refrigerators
• Chillers
• Roof top units
• Condensate tank feed systems.
• Boiler and systems
• Various plumbing-faucets-flow valves, toilet repairs, wax rings, and supply lines
• Drinking fountains
• Exhaust fans
• Kitchen equipment, garbage disposals, and hot water boilers
• Natural gas equipment
• Air compressors
• Provides advice as well as hands on instruction in basic maintenance, safety and troubleshooting procedures with an overall level of professionalism.
• Responsible for coordination and control of activities to deliver superior service, provide safe and stable operation of the facility, and to optimize O&M efforts.
• Keeps tools and equipment operational at all times.
• Documents actions by completing equipment records and work orders. Documents any refrigeration used or reclaimed.
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; complying with legal regulations.
• Responsible for emergency calls 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
• Establishes environmental systems by mounting, installing, fabricating, or connecting compressors, condensers, evaporators, motors, expansion and discharge valves, motors, temperature and humidity controls, fans, control panels, switches, fuses, filters, gauges, ducts, piping, tubing, and related components: completes power connections.
• Assists other maintenance personnel and other staff as needed.
• Does preventive maintenance on systems as required.
• Changes filters on a regular basis and has filters available when needed.
• Help maintain safety and security in the buildings.
• Communicates as needed with all staff to ensure a team approach to problem solving.
• Accesses and responds to electronic communication (i.e., website, email, voice mail, etc.) daily.

Other duties and responsibilities:

• Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as responsible citizens.
• Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
• Responsible for clocking in and out each day.
• Reports absence into online reporting system
• Remains compliant with district policies regarding alcohol and substance use/abuse. (example: PO 4122.01 and PO 4170)
• Conducts all work in a safe and responsible manner.
• Conducts other duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance or the building principal.

Additional working conditions:

• Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
• Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions.
• Occasional interaction among unruly children.
• Regular requirement to reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, stoop, and kneel.
• Lift, carry, push, and pull various supplies and materials.
• Walking in excess of 2-3 miles per day.
• Repetitive hand motion (e.g. hand tools).
• Frequent climbing of stairs and ladders.
• Exposure to high levels of noise (e.g. power tools)
