Job Title: Maintenance Technician – Night Shift (Rotating 2-2-3 Schedule)

This Night Shift Maintenance Technician role supports continuous operations in a fast-paced automotive manufacturing environment producing undercar components. Working on a rotating 2-2-3 schedule with 12-hour night shifts, you help keep forming, machining, assembly, and packaging equipment running safely and efficiently. You diagnose and repair equipment issues, perform preventative maintenance, and support both mechanical and electrical systems to minimize downtime and maintain high production standards.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and perform emergency repairs on production machinery during active runs to minimize downtime, including PLC-controlled equipment, motors, CNC machines, robotics, and conveyor systems.
• Execute scheduled preventative maintenance tasks on undercar product forming, machining, assembly, and packaging equipment according to established maintenance plans.
• Rebuild and repair mechanical and fluid power components such as pumps, valves, cylinders, and gearboxes, ensuring reliable operation.
• Maintain and repair facility hydraulic and pneumatic lines to support consistent equipment performance.
• Perform electrical troubleshooting by reading and interpreting electrical schematics, working safely with three-phase power up to 480V, and diagnosing issues with sensors, relays, and wiring.
• Use a multimeter and other diagnostic tools to identify electrical faults and verify proper system operation.
• Adhere strictly to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, OSHA guidelines, and internal plant safety policies to ensure a safe working environment.
• Document all maintenance activities, parts usage, and improvement recommendations accurately in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Collaborate with production teams to prioritize repairs and maintenance tasks, supporting continuous plant operations.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying recurring issues and recommending corrective actions or upgrades.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial maintenance in a manufacturing environment.
• Hands-on experience performing hydraulic repairs on industrial equipment, including pumps, cylinders, and lines.
• Hands-on experience performing pneumatic repairs on industrial equipment, including valves, actuators, and air lines.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to disassemble, repair, and reassemble mechanical components and assemblies.
• Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting, including safe use of a multimeter and working with three-phase power up to 480V.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Experience with PLC troubleshooting on production machinery.
• Background in general troubleshooting and repair of industrial equipment, including motors, conveyors, and related systems.
• Experience performing preventative maintenance on manufacturing equipment.
• Familiarity with plastic injection or plastics-related equipment maintenance.
• Commitment to following safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and OSHA guidelines.
• Ability to work 12-hour night shifts on a rotating 2-2-3 schedule.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in plastics manufacturing or maintaining plastic injection equipment, with potential for higher pay based on depth of plastics Background.
• Prior exposure to automotive manufacturing environments and undercar product production.
• Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for logging work orders, parts usage, and maintenance history.
• Strong communication skills for coordinating with production and maintenance teams.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume production setting.
• Comfort working with robotics, CNC equipment, and automated conveyor systems.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large, fast-paced automotive manufacturing facility that produces undercar products for the automotive industry. Work is performed on a night shift from approximately 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM (rotating 2-2-3 schedule). In Week 1, the schedule typically covers Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday; in Week 2, it typically covers Wednesday and Thursday. The long week provides 48 hours and the short week provides 36 hours, with payroll running Sunday through Saturday. The facility operates high-speed forming, machining, assembly, packaging, and plastics-related equipment, including plastic injection machinery, robotics, CNC equipment, and conveyor systems. The environment is noisy and fast-moving, requiring comfort with industrial noise levels and quick production pace. Despite the high activity level, the shop is relatively clean and well-maintained, with an emphasis on safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout and adherence to OSHA guidelines.

This is a Permanent position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.

The pay range for this position is $60000.00 - $74880.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

2 Weeks of PTO and 10 Holidays. They also offer a 401 K that matches up to 6%. And an AIP (Annual Incentive Percentage) which is equal to 2% of the base salary.

This is a fully onsite position in Grand Rapids,MI.

This position is anticipated to close on Sep 25, 2026.
