Assistant Chief Engineer

JOB TITLE: ASSISTANT CHIEF ENGINEER DEPARTMENT: ENGINEERING REPORTS TO: CHIEF ENGINEER FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT PREPARED BY: HUMAN RESOURCES EFFECTIVE DATE: 6/16/26 Summary Assisting the Chief Engineer, the Assistant Chief Engineer is responsible for providing all functions of Engineer 1 and 2 positions, troubleshooting, overseeing engineering staff, and completing daily routines. Duties and Responsibilities Schedule and assign all engineers with daily room preventative maintenance service as needed. Keep a daily log of PM accomplishments and schedule accordingly. Place guest rooms Out of Order with assistance and approval of Director of Housekeeping and Front Office Manager. Perform PM service and troubleshooting of mechanical, HVAC, carts and vehicles. Assist, plan and oversee major projects as requested. Act as Chief Engineer in the absence of the Chief Engineer. Assist all departments with service needs. Write notes to other staff members and make log book entries. Support safe work habits and a safe working environment at all times. Other duties and jobs may be assigned as needed by the Chief Engineer and/or GM. Qualifications 4 years’ experience in the hotel maintenance field preferred. Must have a proven skill set above an Engineer 1 and 2. Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized and non-standardized situations. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedural manuals. Good interpersonal skills. Desire for learning and personal growth. Capability to work independently. Valid documentation to work in the United States. Meet legal age requirements for the position. Preferred Qualifications Be available to work weekends, holidays, and during emergencies. This availability is crucial to ensure that operations run smoothly and without interruption during critical times. Education High school diploma or GED equivalent. Certifications Required Certified Pool Operator (CPO) HVAC Certification Plumbing Certification Electrical Certification Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met successfully to perform the essential functions of this job. Certificates & Licenses Valid California Driver License is required. Work Environment Work may be performed in dirty, dusty, dark, wet, damp or unpleasant conditions. Employees may be required to work in supervised hazardous situations requiring utmost attention to surroundings. Work environment ranges from winter low temperatures to summer high temperatures. Employees may be exposed to outdoor and inclement weather conditions. A large portion of duties will be performed outdoors. Grooming & Uniform Employee must wear uniform at all times during scheduled hours. Uniforms are the property of the hotel. Uniforms that have been tampered or destroyed will be the responsibility of the employee and disciplinary action will apply. Hair must be clean and kept at a reasonable length. No extreme dying or bleaching of hair is permitted. Fingernails must be clean and well-trimmed at all times. Antiperspirant or deodorant must be worn. Any self-inflicted marking (tattoo) on the body cannot be observed by the public. Cologne or perfume may be worn at a minimum.
