Job Overview Responsible for assisting the surgical team as a primary scrub person, handling surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment in a specialized area during procedures. Maintains constant vigilance to preserve the sterile field. The Level III practitioner is a certified advanced practitioner who performs complex cases, demonstrates critical thinking and problem‑solving skills, and has met the Level II Surgical Technologist criteria. What you will do Perform scrub duties to assist physician/surgeon during complex surgical procedures. Make instruments available in the proper position and hand instruments/supplies to the surgeon as needed. Assist the circulator in a timely and accurate preparation of the operating room based on individualized patient assignment, using the physician preference card. Assist the circulator to perform surgical counts following policy and procedure guidelines. Prepare suture and dressing for surgeon use. Maintain a sterile field for surgical services. Ensure adherence to the sterile field by applying principles of aseptic techniques. Demonstrate initiative in professional development and continuing education. Promote individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skill competency; support department‑based goals that contribute to organizational success. Serve as preceptor, mentor, and resource to new and less‑experienced surgical techs. Assist with on‑the‑job training, education, and competency validation to ensure technical expertise and compliance with continuing education requirements. Provide input to the manager regarding training performance. Maintain competency to scrub in multiple surgical specialties. Participate in committees and department activities that promote a healthy, positive environment and recognize the contributions of others. Effectively manage resources such as supplies and equipment. Plan work and complete job responsibilities efficiently and productively. Demonstrate professional work behavior and excellent customer service routinely in all interactions. Perform other duties as assigned or requested. Education & Training Requirements Technical Degree or Diploma in Surgical Technology (required) Associate’s Degree in Surgical Technology (preferred) Work Experience Requirements 3–5 years experience as a Surgery Tech (required) Licenses & Certifications Basic Life Support – American Heart Association (required) Certified Surgical Technologist – National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (required) Technical Specialist in Surgery (TS-C) – National Center for Competency Testing (preferred) Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to communicate verbally with co‑workers, physicians, and other professional staff. Ability to organize tasks and maintain control of workflow. Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations. Ability to read and follow written instruction. Demonstrated independent functioning and proficiency in the scrub role for complex cases. Advanced knowledge of surgical equipment and instrumentation. Expert practice in advanced surgical procedures. Ability to perform the preceptor role in training new surgical techs. Ability to guide, teach, and mentor other technicians and serve in a charge capacity. Knowledge of use and troubleshooting of complex technical equipment and instrumentation. Ability to work without close supervision and exercise independent judgment. Team collaboration skills to develop alternative solutions and choose the best approach. Higher level of collaboration with peers for decision making related to surgical patient care. Supervision Provided Day‑to‑day direction and guidance to other surgical techs. Physical Demands The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion. Must have good balance and coordination. The role requires exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and up to 25 lbs. of force frequently. Visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision is required to assess patients, prepare and analyze data, transcribe, view computer monitors, and conduct extensive reading. Frequent invasive and non‑invasive patient contact, exposure to body fluids, hazardous or poisonous materials, and the need to react quickly to emergency situations are inherent to this role. #J-18808-Ljbffr
