Resident in Counseling

Job Description

Job Purpose: This position is primarily responsible for providing direct counseling services to
students.

Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical:
• Provides individual, group, and couples counseling to students
• Assumes secondary responsibility, in collaboration with the Director, for the
development, coordination, and execution of prevention programming that targets
mental health issues and/or alcohol and substance abuse
• Assumes secondary responsibility, under direct supervision of the Director, in emergency
on-call assessments for students exhibiting signs of mental distress
Administrative:
• Assumes primary responsibility for the assessment of walk-in clients and coordination of
their initial appointment with one of the office interns or staff
• Maintains documentation and records of clients as appropriate
• Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
• Education: A minimum of a Master's degree is required in psychology, counseling,
clinical social work, or a related discipline
• Licensure/Certification: Licensure within the Commonwealth of Virginia
• Experience: One-year clinical experience at the post-Master's level is preferred

Salary: Mid-$40,000s, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
