Accounting Intern Position Title: Accounting Intern Reports To: Accounting Manager FLSA Status: Non-exempt/ Part-Time Location: Sanford Content Last Revised: 7/29/2026 Organization Overview The Central Florida Family Health Center, Inc. dba True Health is a private, not-for-profit federally qualified health center (FQHC) serving Central Florida since 1977. Our mission is to provide high-quality, comprehensive healthcare at a reasonable cost to everyone. Job Summary Accounting Intern provides administrative and operational support to the Accounting Department while gaining practical experience in nonprofit healthcare finance and accounting. Under the guidance of accounting staff, the intern assists with daily financial operations, including data entry, account reconciliations, invoice processing, document management, and financial record maintenance. This internship offers hands-on exposure to accounting principles, financial reporting, accounts payable and receivable processes, and internal controls within a healthcare environment. The Accounting Intern is expected to maintain confidentiality, demonstrate strong attention to detail, and perform assigned tasks accurately and professionally. This position is designed to complement the intern's academic studies by providing meaningful learning opportunities and practical experience in accounting and finance. Key Responsibilities Assist the Accounting Department with daily administrative and accounting functions. Enter and maintain financial data with accuracy in accounting systems and spreadsheets. Assist with accounts payable by organizing invoices, verifying supporting documentation, and preparing items for processing. Support accounts receivable activities, including filing, payment tracking, and account reconciliation. Assist in preparing bank reconciliations and resolving discrepancies under supervision. Organize, scan, and maintain accounting records in accordance with organizational record retention policies. Assist with monthly financial close activities, including gathering supporting documentation and preparing schedules. Prepare and update spreadsheets, reports, and financial summaries using Microsoft Excel. Assist with data entry related to general ledger accounts and journal entries under the direction of accounting staff. Support internal audits by organizing financial records and compiling requested documentation. Maintain the confidentiality of financial information and comply with organizational policies and procedures. Participate in department meetings, training sessions, and assigned learning activities. Communicate professionally with internal departments to obtain supporting documentation and resolve routine accounting inquiries. Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned to support departmental operations and educational learning objectives. Essential Functions Problem Solving Customer Service Verbal Communication Professional Judgement Initiative Administration/Operations Minimum Qualifications Education: Currently enrolled as a junior or senior at an accredited college or university, pursuing a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Experience: Previous accounting, finance, bookkeeping, or administrative experience is preferred but not required. Coursework in accounting, finance, or business-related subjects is required. Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, is preferred. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, work with attention to detail, and manage multiple tasks in a professional environment. Licenses or Certifications: No licenses or certifications are required. Current enrollment in an accredited college or university accounting or finance program is required. Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification or other relevant certifications are preferred but not required. Criminal Background Clearance: True Health is a Health Center Program grantee under 42 U.S.C. 254b, a deemed Public Health Service employee under 42 U.S.C. 233(g)-(n), and partners with agencies that require criminal background checks. True Health has established policies and procedures that may influence the overall employment process, hiring, and "just cause" for the termination of employees. An employee’s career could be shortened if there is a violation of any policies and procedures. Prohibited criminal behavior is defined in Florida Statute (F.S.) 408.809. Any employee arrested for any offense outlined in the F.S.408.809 will be immediately suspended and remain suspended until the charges are disposed of in court. The employee will be terminated for an arrest or conviction of any violation listed above.

DRUG/ALCOHOL SCREENINGS

A post-offer drug and alcohol screen is a requirement for employment. Failure to successfully pass the drug/alcohol screen will be cause for the offer to be rescinded. Employees are subject to random drug/alcohol screenings throughout the duration of their employment with True Health. If an employee fails to pass the drug/alcohol screening, then this shall become grounds for discipline up to and including immediate termination.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee is subject to prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. The employee is subject to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, and move or lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds. The employee is required to use close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjust focus. A reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The Accounting Intern will work a flexible schedule based on departmental needs and the intern's academic schedule. This internship requires a commitment of 10 to 16 hours per week during normal business hours. Occasional adjustments to the work schedule may be required to accommodate departmental projects, training opportunities, or operational needs.
