Traveling Field Service Technician

Job Description

We are seeking a Traveling Field Technician to support a large-scale Windows 11 migration and PC refresh initiative across multiple locations throughout the central United States. This is a hands-on role responsible for replacing end-user devices, conducting hardware inventories, performing asset tagging, decommissioning legacy equipment, and providing basic technical support in the field.

The ideal candidate is comfortable traveling extensively, working independently at remote sites, and interacting with end users in a variety of environments. This individual will play a critical role in ensuring a smooth migration to Windows 11 while maintaining accurate documentation and inventory records.

Responsibilities

Perform PC refreshes and device replacements as part of a large-scale Windows 11 migration.

Inventory existing hardware and verify equipment eligibility for Windows 11 deployment.

Tag, track, and document IT assets using established processes and tools.

Decommission and dispose of legacy hardware according to company procedures.

Install, configure, and deploy desktops, laptops, monitors, printers, and peripherals.

Troubleshoot basic hardware, software, and network connectivity issues.

Document work performed and maintain accurate reporting within Excel and other tracking systems.

Coordinate with project managers, technical teams, and site personnel to ensure successful deployments.

Provide end-user support and basic troubleshooting during refresh activities.

Travel to multiple client locations throughout the assigned territory.

Support additional deployment, networking, and infrastructure-related tasks as needed.

Skills and Requirements

2+ years of experience in desktop support, field services, deployment, or PC refresh projects.

Experience with Windows operating systems, hardware installations, and workstation deployments.

Strong troubleshooting skills involving desktops, laptops, printers, and peripheral devices.

Experience performing hardware inventory, asset management, or equipment tracking.

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel for reporting and documentation.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while traveling extensively.

Strong communication and customer service skills.

Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively, including overnight stays. Experience supporting Windows 10 to Windows 11 migrations.

Basic networking knowledge, including connectivity troubleshooting.

Experience working in distributed or multi-site environments.

Experience using ticketing systems such as ServiceNow.

CompTIA A+ Certification.

CompTIA Network+ Certification.
