Manager Of Advanced Practice Providers

The manager of advanced practice providers serves as the practice leader/advocate for the advanced practice providers in the acute behavioral health services and is structured as 0.6 FTE clinical and 0.4 FTE administrative. The Manager works to promote a people first culture, clinical excellence and accomplish organizational and departmental strategic initiatives. The Manager works to support the delivery of quality medical and nursing care through clinical practice. The Manager is a clinical/systems resource for patient, family, and health care providers, who utilizes advanced practice skills for consultation, collaboration, education, leadership, and research. The Manager of Advanced Practice Providers focuses on the APP's clinical practice, as well as the development, analysis, and improvement of systems that impact the division(s) they are responsible for.
Essential functions include:
- Manages and provides direction for leading, training and hiring: Selects/hires team members and trains and/or oversees the training on job related tasks. Provides oversight for the APP team, guiding coaching and mentoring each member. Makes salary recommendations. Submits notifications for personnel actions (e.g., status changes, terminations). Makes recommendations for human resource needs.
- Operational/Financial Management: Responsible for assisting and implementation of business plans and operational budgeting. Provides oversight to APP productivity and supports the leadership team in monitoring financial reports & making strategic decisions based on data and strategic planning.
- Clinical Care: In collaboration with physicians, assesses patient, synthesizes and analyzes data, develops plan of care, orders diagnostic tests and therapeutic treatments and evaluates clinical outcomes according to individualized* patient needs/age specific standards. As the Manger of Advanced Practice Providers will work with Division(s) Chief and Medical Director to ensure consistent clinical practice within the APP team, continuously evaluating practice.(*Individualized refers to the patient's developmental, cognitive, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, and educational/family influences and physical/medical care needs.)
- Completes an accurate assessment of patients within assigned specialty.
- Identifies appropriate medical diagnoses, and documents plan of care in progress notes.
- Utilizes appropriate diagnostic tests related to patient condition and demonstrates ability to interpret the diagnostic tests.
- Synthesizes and analyzes data obtained through assessment to develop a comprehensive plan of care that is individualized and reflects patient care needs including interventions and treatments to attain expected outcomes.
- Implements plan by writing appropriate medical orders in accordance with medical practice standards and/or jointly approved protocols.
- Evaluates and revises plan as indicated by changes in patient condition or needs.
- Communicates daily medical plan/updates to patients/parents, medical team involved, and other interdisciplinary team members.
- Demonstrates understanding of caregiver dynamics involved in providing care to the pediatric patient.
- Works in collaboration with nursing staff to integrate individualized nursing plans/ interdisciplinary goals in support of the medical plan of care.
- Assesses the educational needs of patients/caregivers and develops/implements the educational plan in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
- Implements therapeutic measures and medications according to the State of Nebraska APRN and PA statutes and organization's hospital policies. Performs duties as approved in his/her individual Scope of Service, according to organization's hospital policies. In collaboration with Division Chief and Medical Director will ensure appropriate practice within the team. Demonstrates competency in principles of medication dosing and mechanism of action as it relates to specific diagnosis. Orders/administers medication according to hospital policy, procedure and scope of practice. Demonstrates knowledge and expertise when performing credentialed procedures/specialty skills, independently or with a physician to include:
- Documentation reflects assessment/evaluation, modification, and patient's response to therapy, changes in condition, and therapeutic interventions/procedures. As Manager of Advanced Practice Providers and in collaboration with Supervisor of Advanced Practice, Division(s) Chief and Medical Director, will ensure accuracy and effectiveness of documentation by all APP team members.
- Entries in the medical record follow hospital policy (i.e., date, time, use of appropriate abbreviations, and legibility).
- Facilitates written medical orders vs verbal orders, when appropriate.
- Documentation reflects timely notification of collaborating physician and/or appropriate health care team members.
- Documentation reflects communication with families/caregivers as appropriate (i.e., update on plan of care, teaching, etc.).
- Documentation notes are individualized to the clinical area and reflect assessment, plan of care, rationale for plan of care, care changes, and collaborative discussions, contains necessary components per hospital policy and standards.
- Assumes leadership role in implementing and reinforcing medical/nursing standards of practice to promote quality patient care within APP team and in the department.
- Performs as a clinical content expert in integrating medical/nursing practice into unit/organizational systems under development/review.
- Collaborates with identified groups in the organization to define/clarify/improve practice while incorporating research findings, new knowledge and national standards to advance patient care throughout the organization.
- Proactively identifies educational needs related to patient care specialty and provides formal/informal professional education.
- Coordinates/participates in clinical project planning and program development for effective implementation and monitoring of outcomes.
- Identifies opportunities to acknowledge unit/organization for patient care best practices as seen through support of publication/research participation.
- Participates in preceptorship/internship of nurse practitioner students, as assigned.
- Promotes professionalism and leadership within service team, and through interactions with patients, families, staff, colleagues, others.
- Professionally seeks opportunities to help unit team members/department, as needed.
- Accepts assignments to share/teach knowledge and provide clinical support.
Education qualifications:
- Master's Degree or Doctorate Degree in Nursing (MSN or DNP) or PA program from an accredited college or university Required
Experience qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience Required and
- 1-3 years of leadership experience Preferred and
- Experience as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Required
Skills and abilities:
- Satisfy all relevant criteria and qualifications outlined in the Medical Staff Policy on Allied Health Professional, required to be credentialed.
- Maintains practice agreement with service of specialty, and practices within framework of respective scope of practice.
- Must be knowledgeable in billing regulation practices to include documentation requirements/CPT coding regulations.
- Must be able to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature, without loss of efficiency or composure, and be able to perform under stressful conditions when confronted with multiple requests, demonstrating prioritizing skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with multiple disciplines.
- Legible handwriting skills.
- Ability to be self-directed, with minimum supervision, and detail oriented.
Licenses and certifications:
- APRN-BC - Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Board Certified Upon Hire Required or
- PA - Physician Assistant Upon Hire Required and
- CPNP-AC - Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Acute Care Upon Hire Required or
- PA-C - Physician Assistant Upon Hire Required and
- BLS - Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association Upon Hire Required and
- DEA License Required and
- PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Required and
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Cardiology only) Required
