Lumber is hiring a General Manager for our Powell, Wyoming lumberyard and home-improvement store. This is the on-site leader of the location — responsible for the full operation, the team, the customer experience, and store financial results.You will report to the District Manager. General Managers are accountable for making that promise real in their community.What You Will DoCustomer Service and SalesLead by example at the sales counter, on the sales floor, and at the registerTrain and coach associates to deliver prompt, courteous, knowledgeable serviceResolve customer concerns quicklyKeep the showroom merchandised to company and local standards, including planograms, end caps, seasonal product, promotions, and price changesMake sure deliveries leave on time, complete, and in good conditionSupport contractor sales coverage so new business is developed, and current accounts stay well servedFinancial Performance, Payroll, and InventoryDrive sales and profit to meet or exceed budgetUnderstand the numbers that move store performance and stay accountable for resultsControl costs and schedule labor to balance productivity and customer serviceRecord sales, returns, transfers, and adjustments accurately and on timeKeep inventory high enough to serve customers and in line with investment goalsMake sure warehouse and yard teams receive and store product correctlyReduce shrinkage, damage, and theft through clean processes and secure high-theft itemsSafety, Facilities, and Loss PreventionModel a safety-first culture for employees and customersKeep the location, equipment, and grounds safe, clean, and maintainedMake sure ladders, forklifts, trucks, and other equipment are in safe working conditionLead and document regular safety meetingsApply company-approved security and loss-prevention practicesProtect inventory from weather, poor stacking, loss, and theftPeople Leadership and CommunicationRecruit, select, schedule, and train key peoplePublish work schedules on time and make sure hours worked are recorded correctlyGive timely coaching and corrective feedback; do not ignore performance problemsMentor Retail Managers and other key employeesRun monthly store meetings on performance, goals, promotions, events, problems, and safetyKeep an open-door environment where people can raise issues and share ideasHelp associates use the Company's ESS Resource CenterCheck and respond to company and customer email in a timely mannerReport unusual occurrences, obstacles, and improvement ideas to the District Manager and other company leadersFollow company policy and protect confidential informationPerform other related duties assigned by the District Manager or other qualified company leadersThis list reflects the primary duties of the role and is not intended to be a complete inventory of every task, activity, or responsibility required. Duties may be adjusted, within the scope of the position, as business needs require.What You Need to Have3–5 years of management or supervisory experience in building materials, home improvement, hardware, lumber, or a related field — or an equivalent mix of education and experienceStrong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage with limited supervisionWorking knowledge of retail operations, merchandising, inventory control, customer service, and store financialsStrong product knowledge of building materials, lumber, and hardware, or the demonstrated ability to acquire it quickly through trainingComfort using a point-of-sale system and other retail or business software; estimating software experience is a plusEnough math and business skill to read sales, margin, inventory, labor, and other operating data and use them to run the storeAbility to work a flexible retail schedule, generally 50 or more hours per week, including evenings, weekends, and holidaysValid driver's license and an acceptable driving recordAbility to perform the essential physical functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, including bending, reaching, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and frequently lifting or moving 50 to 100 poundsNice to HaveBachelor's degree in business, retail management, construction, or a related fieldExperience as a store manager, assistant store manager, or retail manager in a lumberyard, hardware store, or home-improvement retailerExperience coaching a contractor sales effort, running planograms, managing inventory accuracy, or owning store P&L resultsFamiliarity with forklifts, delivery operations, yard operations, and the safe storage of building materialsPay and BenefitsPay range: $50,000–$65,000 per yearThis role is also eligible for quarterly bonus.Potential pay rate based upon region, experience, education, licenses and certifications.Pay Transparency: This compensation listed reflects the pay range reasonably expected for this posted position at the posted location(s).
