Our organization is in search of a full-time Medical Director of Dermatology to oversee a well-established and collaborative dermatology program located in Portland, Maine. This integrated leadership role encompasses academic, clinical, and administrative management of dermatology services throughout the health system, aligning with our mission of clinical excellence, education, and research . The position will report to the Senior Medical Director of Medical Specialties and will have a dotted line to the Chair of the Department of Medicine.

The Division of Dermatology offers a wide range of dermatologic services, including general and complex medical dermatology, procedural dermatology, dermatologic surgery, inpatient care, and consultative services , as well as collaborative efforts with oncology, rheumatology, primary care, and other specialties.

This leadership role provides:

• MD or DO degree from an accredited medical institution.

• Completion of a fellowship in Dermatology .

• Board certification in Dermatology .

• Proven leadership experience in a division, section, program, or medical directorship.

• Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational leadership abilities.

The Medical Director of Dermatology will provide academic leadership for the Division, which includes:

• Working with Graduate Medical Education and Undergraduate Medical Education leadership and Department Chairs to enhance dermatology education for medical students, residents, and fellows.

• Overseeing dermatology teaching initiatives, including clinical instruction, didactic courses, simulation-based education, electives, and medical grand rounds .

• Engaging in efforts to create an optimal clinical learning environment in accordance with Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) standards.

• Encouraging faculty involvement in MaineHealth's clinical, educational, and research missions , including recruitment, development, mentorship, and academic progression.

• Collaborating with MaineHealth research leadership to support and mentor clinical, translational, and health-services research pertinent to dermatology.

The Medical Director will provide clinical leadership for dermatology services, which includes:

• Ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered dermatologic care in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

• Leading the development and execution of innovative care models , clinical pathways, and quality improvement initiatives in dermatology.

• Collaborating with Department of Medicine leadership, service lines, and operational partners to establish and maintain clinical policies, practice guidelines, and performance improvement initiatives .

• Taking responsibility for objectives that align with MaineHealth's Annual Implementation Plan and service-line goals .

The Medical Director will oversee administrative functions for the Division of Dermatology, which includes:

• Engagement in ongoing professional practice evaluation (OPPE) and focused professional practice evaluation (FPPE) processes.

• Leading efforts in faculty and advanced practice provider recruitment, onboarding, engagement, development, and retention .

• Supporting division members' involvement in regional and national professional societies , leadership development programs, and academic promotion.

• Participating in meetings and workgroups essential for fulfilling academic, clinical, and administrative duties.

• Conducting performance reviews and periodic reassessments of responsibilities in collaboration with the Chair of the Department of Medicine / Chief of the Adult Medicine Service Line and relevant administrative leadership.
