Patient Financial Services Representative Orthopedics

Primary City/State: Glendale, Arizona. Department: C/P-North Central Orthopedics. Work Shift: Day. Location: 5601 W Eugie, Glendale, AZ 85304. Position Summary This position coordinates a smooth patient flow process by answering phones, scheduling patient appointments, providing patient and insurance registration, obtaining required signatures, verifying insurance coverage, validating referrals and authorizations, collecting patient liability, and providing financial guidance to patients. It also posts patients at the point of service, releases information in accordance with organizational and compliance policies, and balances the cash drawer. Core Functions Perform registration and check‑in processes, including data entry, providing patients with appropriate information and intake forms, obtaining necessary signatures, and generating population health summaries. Verify insurance eligibility and benefits for services rendered, document results, and assist in obtaining or validating pre‑certification, referrals, and authorizations. Calculate and collect patient liability based on verified insurance benefits, and explain available payment arrangements to patients and their families. Enter payments and charges for services rendered and perform daily payment/charge reconciliation; balance the cash drawer at the beginning and end of each day and prepare daily bank deposits with necessary paperwork. Schedule office visits and procedures within the medical practice and external practices, maximizing reimbursement by scheduling patients in accordance with payor plan provisions and confirming appointments for the following day. Demonstrate proactive interpersonal communication skills while dealing with patient concerns via telephone, email, and in‑person conversations; optimize patient flow with effective customer service and communication. Assist in responding to requests for patient medical records per company policies, procedures, and applicable laws. Provide a variety of patient services to assist in patient flow, including escorting patients, taking vitals, assisting in patient treatment, distributing mail and fax information, and ordering supplies. Work independently under regular supervision, following structured work routines in a fast‑paced, multi‑task environment with high volume and immediacy needs. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma, GED, or equivalent working knowledge. At least one year of experience in patient financial services, collection services, or the insurance industry. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision. Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills for interacting with a wide range of audiences. Proficiency in common office software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications. For employees at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral, and BUMG (BUMCT, BUMCS) serving children, possession of an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintenance of the card for the duration of employment, and a signed Arizona Criminal History Affidavit upon hire.
