Senior Investment Accountant

We are partnering with an innovative and industry-leading insurance organization that is looking to add an experienced Senior Investment Accountant to its growing finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional with deep investment accounting expertise to play a key role in financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and process improvement within a dynamic environment. Position Overview The Senior Investment Accountant will be responsible for overseeing investment accounting activities, ensuring accurate financial reporting, supporting regulatory filings, and collaborating with both internal stakeholders and external service providers. This position requires strong technical accounting knowledge, exceptional analytical skills, and experience with insurance industry investment reporting. Primary Responsibilities Provide oversight of the organization’s outsourced investment accounting provider, ensuring work is completed accurately, on schedule, and in accordance with established service level agreements (SLAs). Review, verify, and approve investment accounting journal entries, account reconciliations, valuation analyses, and financial reporting related to investment activity. Evaluate complex investment transactions and determine the appropriate accounting treatment based on applicable accounting standards. Research, interpret, and implement new accounting pronouncements and guidance affecting investment accounting. Lead and coordinate month-end and quarter-end investment accounting close activities to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. Manage statutory investment reporting requirements, including preparation and review of NAIC Schedules D, DA, BA, and E, along with all related disclosures. Coach and support junior accounting professionals while promoting continuous improvement of investment accounting processes and workflows. Calculate and prepare fair value adjustments for impaired investment securities. Prepare, review, and validate statutory investment schedules, including Investment Income Exhibits, Realized and Unrealized Gain/Loss Exhibits, and all accompanying footnote disclosures. Assist with monitoring statutory deposit requirements and coordinate the replacement of securities held within those deposits when necessary. Support surplus relief initiatives and provide investment reporting associated with those programs. Prepare and coordinate communications related to capital markets transactions, working with parties such as trustees, financial guarantors, asset custodians, investment managers, and rating agencies. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline. Minimum of seven (7) years of investment accounting experience, with prior insurance or financial services industry experience strongly preferred. Comprehensive understanding of statutory accounting principles and NAIC reporting requirements. Experience collaborating with outsourced investment accounting firms and/or investment custodians. Working knowledge of Clearwater or a comparable investment accounting platform. Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency with strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively across multiple teams. Compensation will be based on experience and qualifications. Preferred Qualifications CPA, CFA, or active pursuit of a professional accounting or finance certification. Experience accounting for private funds and alternative investment portfolios. Demonstrated experience interpreting and implementing new accounting standards and regulatory guidance. Background in process automation, technology enhancements, or financial system integrations. Participation in employee resource groups (ERGs), volunteer initiatives, or other cultural and community engagement activities. Ability and willingness to travel periodically for business meetings, conferences, or team events. Flexible mindset with a willingness to contribute to broader organizational initiatives as business needs evolve.
