Systems Engineering Manager

Overview Bullhorn is looking for a strategic technical leader to join our Technical Operations team as a Manager of Systems Engineering. This is a leadership role within the Technical Operations organization. In this role you will be responsible for leading a team of systems engineers who build, implement, troubleshoot, and manage products and solutions for Bullhorn's production environment while ensuring 24/7 availability and high performance. You will balance hands‑on technical contributions with people management, strategic planning, and cross‑functional collaboration. Responsibilities Lead, mentor, and develop a team of systems engineers across multiple experience levels (SE I through Senior SE III) Participate in hiring, onboarding, and retention strategies to build a world‑class systems engineering team Partner with senior leadership to define and execute the systems engineering roadmap aligned with business objectives Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, system reliability, and scalability Lead cross‑functional infrastructure projects from planning through execution Evaluate and implement emerging technologies and tools to improve team productivity and system performance Ensure 24/7 availability of production environments through effective team scheduling, incident response, and on‑call management Drive accountability for SLAs, system performance metrics, and operational KPIs Lead major incident response efforts and facilitate blameless postmortems to drive systemic improvements Establish and enforce standards for documentation, runbooks, change management, and operational procedures Manage relationships with cross‑functional partners including Development, QA, Customer Support, Professional Services, and Security Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience Relevant certifications (AWS, Azure, ITIL, etc.) are a plus 3+ years of people management experience, leading technical teams in SaaS or high‑availability environment 8+ years of hands‑on experience in systems administration, infrastructure engineering, or DevOps roles Expertise in Linux‑based systems administration (required) and Windows Server (highly preferred) Strong understanding of SaaS architecture, multi‑tenant environments, and production operations at scale Experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and infrastructure‑as‑code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation) Exposure to containerization and orchestration technologies (Kubernetes, Docker) Experience with Java‑based applications, application servers (Tomcat, JBoss), and performance tuning Scripting abilities in Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar languages Demonstrated ability to build and execute technical roadmaps aligned with business goals Experience managing incident response, change management, and compliance in production environments Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to assess risk and make data‑driven decisions Experience with automation, monitoring, and observability platforms (ELK, Prometheus, Grafana, New Relic) Understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, firewalls) Ability to translate technical concepts into business impact and communicate effectively with non‑technical audiences Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines Fit for this role Balance strategic thinking with hands‑on technical execution Passionate about building and developing high‑performing teams Thrives in fast‑paced, high‑pressure environments and can maintain composure during incidents Take ownership of outcomes and hold yourself and others accountable Believe in continuous improvement and foster a culture of learning and innovation Communicate proactively, transparently, and with empathy Have previous on‑call experience and understand the realities of 24/7 operations Experience in a SaaS environment supporting 10,000+ customers with 200,000+ users Compensation and benefits Annual base salary range: $112,626 - 135,000 Eligible for an annual target bonus and a comprehensive benefits package Benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401(k), 401(k) match, unlimited paid time off, global mental health support, on‑demand learning & development, quarterly volunteer days, and an employee referral program #J-18808-Ljbffr Bullhorn, Inc.
