Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular Unit (CVU) Stepdown position at a Level 1 Trauma facility in Nebraska, requiring at least 1 year of cardiac telemetry experience and active ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.

Details

• Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit (CVU 5E) within an acute care, Level 1 Trauma hospital
• 18-bed unit serving patients requiring intermediate care, including downgraded CVICU patients and those with cardiac and vascular diagnoses such as CHF, A-fib RVR, CVAs, and post-surgical cardiac patients
• Unit heavily supports the thoracic program, EP lab, cath lab, and structural heart program
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4, adjusting to 1:3 for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hours
• RNs are required to titrate drips including amiodarone, nitroglycerin, nicardipine, epinephrine, cardizem, and other BP management medications
• RT is available 24/7; RT equipment in use includes BiPAP, CPAP, and nasal cannula
• Remote tele techs are available; RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry strips — unit has both hardwired telemetry and tele box capabilities
• 12-hour day shifts, 0630–1900, with some night shift coverage 1830–0700
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required to all same-level and lower-acuity units
• No on-call or standby requirement
• EMR: Epic

Requirements

• Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses will not be accepted
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — all must be active; pending certifications will not be accepted
• Minimum 1 year of experience with cardiac/cardiovascular stepdown or intermediate care patients
• Minimum 2 years of overall RN experience required
• BSN not required
• Driver's license required for consideration (used to verify candidate resides at least 50 miles from the facility)
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, each including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; the driver's license on file is used to verify permanent address
• Candidates who are currently or were recently (within the past year) employed full time, part time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility are not eligible — candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
• RNs must pass an open-book, pass/fail skills exam (minimum 90%) administered on the first Friday of orientation; failure results in contract termination
• Unit orientation is tailored to individual experience, typically 1–2 shifts on the unit (total orientation is 12 hours)
• Charge nurse is present on each shift and rarely takes a patient assignment; patient care techs are available at a 1:18 ratio
• Hospitalist and intensivist are in-house 24/7; cardiology is on call after hours
• Scrub color: Navy blue
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them will result to contract termination
• RTO must be disclosed upfront — limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
• 13-week contract with a 36-hour weekly schedule
