Assistant Director Educational Programs - Anesthesiology

The Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Medicine, is seeking an innovative Assistant Director Educational Programs to assist Department leadership in the development and execution of the strategic vision for the Education Mission. The incumbent will oversee the administration of our residency program, 9 fellowship programs, medical students, MSA Program, continuing education, and new simulation division. The Assistant Director will oversee an administrative team of approximately ten people, with two manager-level direct reports, and two to four administrative-level direct reports. The administrative team serves 200+ trainees and students. The Assistant Director will be instrumental in executing the strategic vision of the department's education mission, to include a planned expansion of our MSA program to other UT campuses, growing simulation programs and services, and efforts to increase continuing education and seminars/workshops for practicing providers. Position Summary: The primary purpose of this position is to support Department leadership with the execution of processes and procedures related to the administration and operations of the department's Undergraduate Medical Education (UME), Graduate Medical Education (GME), Continuing Medical Education (CME), Visiting Scholars, and related educational initiatives. Under the direction of the Vice Chair for Education, Chair, and Director of Management Operations, the Assistant Director is responsible for the planning, coordination, implementation, daily operations, and evaluation of departmental educational programs and departmental educational facilities. This role supports the administrative and financial activities associated with anesthesiology educational programs and spaces, ensuring effective utilization, operational efficiency, and alignment with departmental and institutional priorities. The Assistant Director works collaboratively with departmental leadership, faculty, institutional partners, and external stakeholders to support program growth, space utilization, and compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements. This position also assists with assessing, monitoring, and improving compliance with standards set forth by relevant accrediting and regulatory bodies, including ACGME, ACCME, LCME, CAAHEP, and the Texas Medical Board. Position Key Accountabilities:
Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in Education, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Business Administration, or a related field required
Master's Degree in Education, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Business Administration, or a related field preferred Minimum Experience: 6 years in medical education, healthcare service delivery or management required
5 years as a leader with significant graduate medical education oversight and management experience preferred Physical Requirements: Exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount frequently to move objects. Security Sensitive: This position is a security-sensitive position pursuant to Texas Education Code §51.215 and Texas Government Code §411.094. To the extent that a position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Texas Business and Commerce Code §117.001(2), the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired for and to continue to be employed in that position. Personnel in such positions, and similarly situated state contractors, will be routinely reviewed to determine whether things such as criminal history or continuous connections to the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the applicant, employee, or contractor from being able to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure. A foreign adversary is a nation listed in 15 C.F.R. §791.4. Residency Requirement: Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
- Plans, implements, and collaborates with departmental education leadership and faculty for program development in support of the department's educational mission, under the direction of the ViceChair for Education, Chair, and Director of Management Operations.
- Works collaboratively with leadership of undergraduate, graduate, fellowship, continuing medical education, visiting scholars, and simulation-related programs to support onboarding, training, educational delivery, and administrative operations.
- Coordinates and oversees the day-to-day management and operational support of the department's educational programs and departmental educational facilities, including scheduling, utilization, maintenance coordination, and alignment with departmental and institutional priorities.
- Oversees administrative activities related to departmental educational programs and educational facilities, including budget planning support, expense approvals, tracking, and projections, in collaboration with departmental and institutional leadership.
- Supports the development and execution of strategic initiatives related to educational program growth, space utilization, and operational efficiency in support of the ViceChair for Education and Director of Management Operations.
- Serves as a key departmental liaison between academic programs, clinical partners, institutional offices, vendors, and accreditation agencies (including ACGME, ACCME, LCME, TMB, and CAAHEP) to support educational activities and ensure compliance.
- Ensures departmental educational programs and departmental educational facilities operate in compliance with applicable accreditation standards, institutional policies, regulatory requirements, and safety guidelines; identifies risks and collaborates with leadership to implement corrective actions.
- Coordinates space-related activities for departmental educational facilities, including renovations, construction projects, procurement activities, and equipment inventory management, in collaboration with institutional partners and central offices.
- Develops, implements, and maintains departmental procedures and operational guidelines related to the use and administration of departmental educational facilities and education-related resources, consistent with institutional policies.
- Manages Human Resources activities related to education administration staff, including recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, onboarding, training, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
- Represents the department on institutional committees, task forces, and workgroups related to education and academic operations, as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Experience with program development within an academic health center.
- Training or education in principles interprofessional education and practice and team science.
- Collaboration skills to promote team building, conflict resolution, stakeholder management, risk management, product management, negotiation, and decision-making.
- Leadership skills to drive and motivate the team to achieve results, inspire and influence action, mentor, coach, and effectively transfer expertise to others.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and student database systems, e.g.
- Training Administrators of Graduate Medical Education (C-TAGME) by National Board for Training Administrators of Graduate Medical Education (TAGME) preferred
