Structural Dam Safety Engineering Project Manager/Technical Lead Full-time State/Province: Maryland Business Group: DCS Legal Entity: AECOM Technical Services Inc Business Line: Water Work Location Model: Hybrid Primary Location: US - Germantown, MD - 12420 Mileston Compensation: USD 150,000 - USD 180,000 - yearly About the Role We are seeking a highly talented Structural Dam Safety Engineering Project Manager/Technical Lead to join the East Region Dams Team. This position supports a wide range of Dam Safety Engineering projects across the East Region and reports to AECOM offices in the East Region. Responsibilities Maintain client relationships, handle contracting, project planning and execution, financial management, technical management, change management, and project team management including subcontractors. Act in a client‑facing role with ownership and responsibility for the successful delivery of dam engineering projects and programs, including business development and proposal preparation for new and existing clients. Lead the technical execution of projects, performing structural stability and strength analyses, structural design, Potential Failure Mode Analyses, Semi‑Quantitative Risk Assessments, site inspection, construction observation, and regulatory compliance activities associated with hydraulic concrete structures such as spillways, outlet works, and other site civil structures. Plan, manage and lead field investigations for various hydraulic structures. Prepare and perform quality control reviews of other engineer’s work on deliverables such as design calculations, engineering reports, construction drawings, and technical specifications. Build and maintain project schedules, manage resources, budgets, and risk to ensure project success. Plan, direct, supervise and lead multi‑disciplinary teams on Dam Safety Engineering projects. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff. Flexibility and willingness to travel for project work and business development as part time as needed. Qualifications Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering plus 8 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education. Licensed as a Professional Engineer in at least one state with the ability to apply for reciprocity in additional states. Minimum of 5 years of direct experience managing projects or completing project management activities such as maintaining project budgets, schedule, staffing, quality control, and/or client relations. Minimum 2 years of experience developing proposals, including preparing technical approaches and scopes of work, budgeting, and scheduling. Occasional travel to project sites, client meetings, and/or professional conferences is required. Valid U.S. Driver’s License. Must be able to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review. U.S. Citizenship is required. Preferred Qualifications Minimum of 10 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education. Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering. Experience leading multi‑disciplinary teams. Ability to complete the Managing AECOM Projects training and receive the AECOM Project Manager certification; expected to start the training program within 6 months of hire. Experience with relevant software such as Microsoft Power BI and Project, Primavera P6, Bluebeam and PMIS such as Procore and e-Builder, AutoCAD, Mathcad, STADD Pro, and Ansys. Passion for mentoring junior staff and leadership; guiding our growing team of engineers to produce quality work and excellent client service. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Project experience with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Approved FERC Independent Consultant (IC) or ability to receive FERC approval to perform Part 12D Inspections. Experience performing risk assessments and Potential Failure Mode Analyses related to dam design, construction, and operation.
