Director of Operations

The Director of Operations oversees the daily performance of the business unit, ensuring operational excellence, financial discipline, and consistent delivery across all active projects. This leader holds full P&L responsibility and must bring deep experience from a commercial general contractor, including recent oversight of multiple mission critical projects valued at $50M+ (typical portfolio ranges from $20M–$300M). The role requires a strategic operator capable of driving efficiency, developing high‑performing teams, and strengthening client relationships. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Establish and monitor quantitative and qualitative performance standards to evaluate operational effectiveness; identify and implement improvement opportunities. Review, analyze, and refine business processes to enhance productivity, workflow, and cross‑departmental coordination. Implement operational policies and procedures that elevate day‑to‑day performance and support long‑term business objectives. Ensure safe, well‑equipped, and compliant work environments across all operational areas. Provide executive oversight of construction operations, including schedule performance, cost controls, quality metrics, and risk mitigation. Direct and support manufacturing, purchasing, and sales functions, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and financial targets. Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cost‑of‑sales planning for each division to achieve margin and revenue objectives. Communicate new directives, policies, and procedural changes to managers and staff; facilitate teamwide discussions for major initiatives to maintain clarity and morale. Strengthen customer satisfaction through continuous improvement of operational processes and service delivery. Integrate efforts across operations, engineering, technology, and customer service to create streamlined, cost‑effective business processes. Serve as a senior representative of the organization, maintaining a positive and professional presence with employees, clients, industry partners, and the community. Oversee contract governance, change‑order strategy, and risk exposure throughout project lifecycles. Review and approve major budget adjustments, operational changes, and strategic recommendations. Mentor and develop project managers and operational leaders, supporting succession planning and long‑term talent growth. Identify and cultivate business opportunities, including cross‑functional collaboration and client relationship expansion. Perform additional duties as required to support organizational goals. Strong manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment (e.g., computers, mobile devices, copiers, etc.). Extended periods of computer and phone use. REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS Master's degree in business administration required. Extensive and diversified background with at least 10 years of related experience. Thorough understanding of practices, theories, and policies involved in business and finance. Superior verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Superior managerial and diplomacy skills. Extremely proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
