Position Summary... What you'll do... Role summary: As a Principal Software Engineer at Walmart, you will lead the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, driving cloud-native architecture and AI/ML integration across multiple teams. This role requires overseeing the full software development lifecycle, ensuring high availability and reliability of distributed systems. About the team: The GTP Data Frameworks team develops and maintains Walmart Data Clients, a unified data access layer supporting various data stores including RDBMS, NoSQL, cache, search, and messaging systems. The team delivers scalable, standardized SDKs that simplify data interactions and promote best practices such as optimistic locking and separation of business logic. Advancing toward service-oriented models, they integrate platform security, traffic migration, caching, and telemetry features. This team enables the creation of robust, high-performance applications aligned with Walmart’s evolving technology landscape, ensuring operational excellence and future-ready solutions. What you'll do: Lead platform engineering efforts to deliver scalable, cloud-native infrastructure and reusable tooling aligned with strategic roadmaps. Drive full software development lifecycle including design, testing, deployment, and maintenance across multiple teams. Architect and implement distributed systems optimized for real-time data processing and AI/ML integration. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, promoting best practices and innovation. Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into clear technical requirements and measurable outcomes. Maintain architectural documentation to ensure transparency and alignment in technical decisions. Foster continuous improvement by evaluating and enhancing processes, tools, and system reliability. What you'll bring: Extensive experience in platform engineering leadership, delivering scalable and reusable infrastructure components. Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture and distributed system design ensuring high availability and fault tolerance. Strong technical skills in AI/ML integration, software development lifecycle, and continuous integration/deployment practices. Ability to lead technical execution, including coding, testing, monitoring, and incident response across multiple teams. Proficiency in applying model-driven design and leveraging modern development tools to enhance productivity. Demonstrated capability to mentor engineers and influence architectural decisions for maintainable, interoperable systems. Excellent collaboration skills to engage cross-functional stakeholders and translate business needs into technical solutions. The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
