Job Description

As a Executive Director, Global Marketing – HIV & Emerging Viruses , at Gilead you will act as a highly strategic, enterprise leadership responsible for shaping and executing the global commercial strategy for HIV and emerging virus therapies. You will directly influence long-term portfolio growth, product differentiation, and patient impact worldwide.

You will operate at the intersection of R&D, Commercial, and Corporate Development, driving aligned strategy from early development through global launch and lifecycle management.

Key Responsibilities

1. Enterprise Portfolio & Strategy Leadership

  • Partner with the R&D Therapeutic Area Head to define and evolve a long-term global HIV strategy, positioning Gilead as a leader in innovative therapies

  • Identify unmet medical needs and future market opportunities using market research, analytics, and competitive intelligence

  • Evaluate and prioritize internal pipeline and external partnership / acquisition opportunities

2. Development-to-Commercial Integration

  • Serve as the commercial voice on cross-functional development teams, shaping clinical strategy, target indications, and product profiles

  • Ensure development plans align with differentiated value propositions and market needs

  • Influence regulatory and medical strategies to support successful product positioning and access

3. Global Product Strategy & Launch Excellence

  • Lead development of product profiles, positioning, branding, and messaging during clinical development

  • Define global value propositions supported by economic and outcomes data to enable pricing and reimbursement success

  • Drive launch readiness through publication strategy, naming, and competitive positioning

4. Global Commercial Execution & Lifecycle Management

  • Own global commercial plans post-approval, including positioning, branding, and market access strategy

  • Partner with international affiliates to ensure consistent global strategy translated into local execution

  • Guide lifecycle management, including Phase IV strategy alignment and portfolio optimization

5. Cross-Functional & Global Leadership

  • Lead matrixed, pan-regional teams across Commercial, R&D, Medical Affairs, Regulatory, and Government Affairs

  • Build strong partnerships to ensure aligned decision-making and execution at scale

  • Model Gilead leadership behaviors: inclusion, integrity, accountability, teamwork, and excellence

What Success Looks Like (First 6–12 Months)

  • Established a clear, aligned global HIV strategy with R&D and commercial leaders

  • Delivered differentiated product positioning and development input for pipeline assets

  • Advanced portfolio prioritization decisions based on market opportunity and strategic fit

  • Strengthened global alignment across regions, functions, and lifecycle stages

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 16+ years of relevant experience, OR

  • Master’s degree and 14+ years of relevant experience, OR

  • PhD and 14+ years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (MBA, PhD, PharmD, or MD)

  • Significant experience in global pharmaceutical marketing and strategy

  • Proven expertise in HIV therapeutic area marketing

  • Strong track record in new product planning, portfolio strategy, and lifecycle management

  • Experience leveraging market research and forecasting to drive strategic decisions

  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex global, matrixed teams

  • Experience influencing senior stakeholders across R&D and commercial organizations

  • Strong project management skills with ability to manage multiple high-priority initiatives simultaneously

  • Ability to design and execute multi-dimensional commercial strategies at global scale

The salary range for this position is: $281,010.00 - $363,660.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
