Personal Lines Underwriting Manager

Our PL Underwriting team is currently seeking a Sr. Underwriting Manager in our Worcester, MA location. This is a full time, exempt role. This role is a hybrid opportunity.POSITION OVERVIEWThis position has responsibility for managing a group of employees within Personal Lines Underwriting. This role is responsible for overseeing the growth and profitability of the personal lines underwriting department. The role leads a team and builds a highly engaged workforce to achieve key business strategies of the organization. Additionally, they plan and oversee the implementation of business initiatives and programs, including underwriting acumen and world class risk decision making.IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:Participates in strategy development and decision making and is responsible for effective implementation for assigned site.Champions risk selection for state profitabilityResponsible for business plans and make timely staffing recommendations within established capacity models.Authorizes opportunities for technical and industry training as part of a personal and professional development programDirects performance management by setting cascading goals, giving and receiving feedback, documenting and delivering performance reviews, addressing performance issues, creating and implementing development plans while conforming to policies and other internal proceduresUtilizes technology and talent management to increase efficiency and scalability to support growth and underwriting initiatives.Manage risk exposure which includes tracking measures, analyzing reports and financial activity and reinforces goals.Develop, recommend and authorize implementation of risk management initiatives that lead to high quality underwriting decisions and profitability.Responsible for coaching comprehensive risk decision making and negotiation skillsAble to maintain focus and accountability in ambiguous situations.Builds positive relationships with internal/external customers to accomplish organizational goalsChampion cross-functional & cross site collaboration to identify & promote risk management, and underwriting practices.Demonstrates maturity, confidence, and ability to lead and manage change in a dynamic environment.
