Nurse Supervisor For Pediatrics Ambulatory CareThe Nurse Supervisor for Pediatrics Ambulatory Care provides both clinical and operational leadership for a dynamic, multispecialty pediatric outpatient practice within the Department of Pediatrics at WashU Medicine. Based primarily at Children's Specialty Care Center West County supervising approximately 10 nurses and support staff including coverage needs at SLCH, Graham, and Shiloh. Team Leadership & Development: Drive hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance management, and ongoing competency development for nursing and support staff. Operational Excellence: A typical day may include rounding with team members, operational planning, responding to staffing needs, addressing patient care concerns, and providing direct clinical support when necessary. Hands-On Support: Round daily with staff, address patient care needs, step in with direct clinical support when needed, and resolve real-time operational challenges. Collaboration: Partner with providers, clinical teams, and leadership to maintain high standards of care across all locations. Reports to the Practice Office and Support Manager to build a supportive and engaged clinical team. Schedule: Monday- Friday primarily standard clinic hours (7:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.), with flexibility to adapt to operational and staffing needs.Primary Duties & Responsibilities:Supervises nursing staff, including hiring/firing responsibilities, performance appraisals for subordinates, and initiating disciplinary action.Coordinates patient services with physicians and staff to provide quality care in an effective manner, conducting rounds to ensure quality of patient care delivery.Facilitates educational opportunities and quality improvement activities for staff to ensure compliance with medical school and regulatory guidelines.Assigns/coordinates activities and duties of staff, orienting new staff, and advising administration of conditions and performance issues.Provides direct patient care as needed, including development of patient care plans, administering medication, vitals, phlebotomy, monitoring IV therapies and maintaining records in accordance with approved nursing techniques.Promotes/maintains good public relations with patients and families, acting as liaison between other departments.Provides appropriate counsel to patients/families explaining medications, procedures and teaches care to ensure continuity of care and promote health care maintenance.Monitors supplies/equipment ordering/repairing as required.Working Conditions: Job Location/Working ConditionsNormal office environmentExposure to blood-borne pathogensRequires protective devicesPatient care settingDirect patient care settingPhysical EffortTypically sitting at desk or tableTypically standing or walkingTypically bending, crouching, stoopingOccasional lifting (25 lbs or less)EquipmentOffice equipmentClinical/diagnostic equipmentThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by people assigned to this classification.
