Job Functions Supervises all TCTC Campus Police Officers assigned to respective shifts, maintains communications according to chain of command, and provides basic training related to evacuation plans, active shooter incidents, emergency exits, PPE for employees, contract workers and suppliers. Identifies potential hazards, follows up for necessary Comprehensive Emergency Management plans, and provides time‑to‑time briefings and debriefings for campus security and safety. Responds to emergency incidents, including natural disasters, and determines the level of response required. Acts as duty officer as directed by the Chief of Police as part of the emergency response system and responds to emerging situations, including active shooter incidents. Provides emergency preparedness training to building coordinators and other campus staff and students. Performs other duties as assigned. Patrols campus to prevent crime and detect violations of law and college regulations. Seeks to prevent theft and damage to college property. Identifies and reports safety and security hazards. Performs general police and public service functions such as maintaining order during emergencies, providing first aid, fire prevention, and community‑oriented information and assistance. Performs communications and other administrative services when required. Directs traffic, controls access and movement of pedestrians and vehicular traffic, investigates accidents and issues warnings and citations to violators. Keeps accurate and complete reports and records regarding activities and complaints pertaining to safety, enforcement of laws and college regulations, or fire hazards. Insures officers perform monthly inspections of AEDs, fire extinguishers and other emergency support equipment. Apprehends and arrests violators and testifies in court and other legal or administrative proceedings. Investigates criminal and administrative incidents. Responds to complaints, reports of violations, and requests for assistance. Investigates incidents, gathers evidence, maintains crime scenes, and pursues incidents with reasonable decision‑making and sound judgment in accordance with administrative procedure and the legal process. Qualifications High school diploma. Class 1 Law Enforcement Certification through SLED/SCCJA or the ability to transfer a law enforcement certification from another state following SLED/SCCJA guidelines within 12 months of employment. Valid driver’s license. Current Field Training Officer (FTO) or prior supervision experience (willing to obtain FTO in the first year of employment). Specific Skills Instructor (SSI) or Basic Instructor Development (BID) preferred or willing to obtain in the first year of employment. Seven years of service. Additional Responsibilities Sergeants’ role will include a take‑home police car and agency‑provided cell phone.
