Regional Controller

DPO HVAC is seeking a high-potential Regional Controller to serve as a key finance leader across a growing portfolio of commercial mechanical services businesses. This role will initially focus on learning and supporting Amber Mechanical – a $50M-$70M commercial mechanical services business - while developing deep expertise in project accounting, job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) management, financial reporting, operational finance, and financial planning & analysis. As the individual gains familiarity with the business, responsibilities are expected to expand across multiple operating companies within the region. The Regional Controller will partner closely with General Managers, regional leadership, and corporate finance to improve project profitability, strengthen financial discipline, standardize processes, and provide timely visibility into business performance. This individual will play a critical role in supporting growth, driving operational accountability, and helping build a scalable finance function across the region. Key Responsibilities Financial Reporting & Accounting Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for region. Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP. Oversee general ledger, AP, AR, payroll, treasury, and accounting operations. Support annual audits, tax compliance, and banking relationships. Maintain strong internal controls and accounting discipline. Project Accounting & Job Costing Own the accuracy and integrity of job costing across the business. Maintain and manage WIP schedules and revenue recognition. Partner with project managers and operational leaders to identify margin risks and improve project performance. Analyze project profitability, labor productivity, change-order performance, and project cash flow. Cash Flow & Working Capital Improve billing discipline and collections performance. Monitor cash flow, retainage, and working capital metrics. Support forecasting and liquidity planning. Financial Planning & Analysis Support annual budgeting and periodic forecasting across multiple operating companies. Analyze business performance and identify trends, risks, and opportunities. Develop KPI reporting and dashboards. Partner with GMs to understand performance versus budget and forecast. Multi-Entity Financial Leadership Support financial reporting and operational finance across multiple operating companies within the Midwest region. Standardize accounting, reporting, and financial processes across businesses. Assist with acquisition integrations, controls, and reporting alignment. Develop scalable reporting packages and KPIs for regional leadership. Systems & Process Improvement Support ERP implementations, migrations, and integration initiatives. Drive standardization of accounting and operational finance processes. Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA preferred. 7–12+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience. Public accounting experience serving construction, mechanical contracting, engineering, or project-based clients strongly preferred. Strong understanding of job costing, WIP reporting, percentage-of-completion accounting, and project financial management. Experience with construction accounting systems and ERPs. Experience with budgeting, forecasting, management reporting, and financial analysis preferred. Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
