Pre-School Assistant

Overview City of Bellevue Crossroads Community Center is seeking a Pre‑School Assistant Teacher for our pre‑school program. This program is designed for children ages 3‑5. The primary responsibility of the pre‑school assistant is to provide supervision and safety of the children at all times, under the guidance of the pre‑school teacher. The assistant and teacher are responsible for checking the children in and out of the classroom, ensuring that a Child Waiver Form is completed by the parent/guardian, and providing art, singing, circle time, exploration and structured games and activities to the children. The assistant will work with a pre‑school teacher to develop a cooperative, supportive, and enthusiastic atmosphere. The ideal candidate would have experience working with pre‑school and/or elementary age children. Duration and Hours Program hours: 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The assistant is expected to arrive at 9:00 a.m. The preschool is also offered the first Saturday of each month. CPR/First‑Aid training is offered once a year and attendance is mandatory. Attendance is key; days off are Saturday and Sunday only. Responsibilities Assist teacher in preparing, creating, and adapting instructional materials centered on seasonal activities. Help assess the needs of the children served. Recognize and respond effectively to emergencies. Understand developmental stages of pre‑school children. Assist in maintaining stringent safety procedures at all times, regardless of location. Assist teacher in creating any necessary paperwork (sign‑in sheets, daily reports, incident reports). Assist teacher in checking children in and out daily. Encourage children to follow rules and routines. Assist teacher in setting up and cleaning up the room daily. Encourage children to take turns and share. Assist with circle time. Help manage transitions between activities. Take children outdoors or to the gym for play time daily. Encourage children to use words to resolve conflicts. Perform tasks effectively under pressure of deadlines, difficult situations, interruptions, and emergency situations. Encourage children’s creativity and foster a positive environment. Assist with tasks to enhance effectiveness of the learning environment. Report all problems and concerns immediately to the teacher, Recreation Coordinator, or Center Supervisor. Complete other tasks as assigned. Qualifications At least 21 years old with a high school diploma. Two or more years of experience in recreation activity or program or in the general recreation field (or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities). Experience supervising young children. Enthusiastic, energetic, reliable, and trustworthy. Strong oral and written communication skills. Sensitive to the needs of children. Ability to work with diverse populations. Pass a Criminal Background check. Possess or be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification prior to start date. Physical Demands Involves walking, talking, hearing, using hands to set up arts/crafts, play sports, and demonstrate games. Indoor and outdoor recreational environment with exposure to noise, distractions, seasonal heat, adverse weather, and periodic interruptions. Possible exposure to extended periods of direct sunlight and/or cool and damp weather. Requires strong stamina. Assist with program set‑up and take‑down. May be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 40 pounds. May be required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. Ability to work with a large group of young children. Ability to respond effectively to an emergency. Definition of a Variable Employee Average weekly hours cannot be determined at date of hire. Hours may vary depending on prep time needed and clean‑up time aside from class teaching hours. Will be considered full‑time and eligible for medical coverage if hours average 30 hours per week or more over a 12‑month measurement period (130 hours per month). #J-18808-Ljbffr City of Bellevue
