These procedures include transthoracic, transesophageal, and stress echocardiograms, which are used to diagnose and assess cardiac abnormalities. General duties include preparing equipment, prepping patients, and explaining procedures. The sonographer reviews images, reports findings, and analyzes patient clinical history to identify the purpose of the examination. They frame the clinical question that the examination is intended to answer. The sonographer may expand the examination to adequately address clinical questions. They perform basic to advanced cardiac ultrasound procedures utilizing a variety of equipment and techniques. Measurements necessary for interpretation are made to obtain accurate, high-quality results. The sonographer identifies and defines cardiac abnormalities and adjusts the examination scope appropriately. They may assist physicians in procedure rooms and operating rooms by performing echocardiograph studies. This assistance aims to aid in complex procedures to reduce risk factors. The sonographer helps in conducting transesophageal studies with a cardiologist. They calculate appropriate measurements and ensure probe sterilization. Patients are prepared for procedures, and clinical histories are obtained, including cardiac-related physical findings. The imaging techniques are adapted to obtain comprehensive and diagnostic echocardiograms. The goal is to minimize the chance of erroneous clinical interpretations.
