Per-Diem Certified Medical Assistant 1The Department of Medicine, division of Clinical Pharmacology, has an exciting opportunity for a per-diem Certified Medical Assistant 1 to work onsite at the UHealth campus. The Medical Assistant 1 assists in the examination and treatment of patients, under the direction of a physician. Moreover, the incumbent interviews patients, measures vital signs, and records information on patients' charts. The Medical Assistant 1 also draws and collects blood samples from patients and prepares specimens for laboratory analysis.Core ResponsibilitiesGives injections and treatments and performs routine laboratory tests.Assists in patient care activities such as dressing changes and leg wraps.Prepares treatment room for examination of patient.Assists with physical examinations by preparing supplies and handing instruments and materials to the doctor as directed.Provides patients with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures.Cleans and sterilizes medical instruments while observing principles of sterile technique.Schedules patients for tests and completes required forms for laboratory work.Maintains accurate and complete patient records and documentation.Orders, stocks, and inventories supplies, and assists in performing clerical duties.Escorts and transports patients to various hospital locations.Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.Venipuncture and processing of study samples 24-hour urine collection.Measurement of vital signs Perform ECG tracing Organization of equipment, instrumentation, bedding and other materials.Assists in data management when required.This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as necessary.Core QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalentMinimum of 1 year previous experienceApproved MA Certifications:CMA- Certified Medical Assistant - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)®RMA- Registered Medical Assistant - American Medical Technologists (AMT)CCMA- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant- National Healthcare Association (NHA)NCMA - National Certified Medical Assistant (NHA - NCCT)NRCMA - Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NAHP)Additional certification:American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providersHIV & AIDS Certification: Florida HIV/AIDS Healthcare Professional Continue Education (CE) CertificationKnowledge, Skills and Attitudes:Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.Commitment to the University's core values.Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.Computer SkillsAny relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.The University of Miami offers competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, tuition remission and more.
