GENERAL ENGINEER

Summary You will serve as a GENERAL ENGINEER in the ENGINEERING AND PLANNING DEPARTMENT - CODE 200 of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF. Responsibilities You will assist the Project Engineer in efficient management and resolution pertaining to non-nuclear overhaul procedures in support of waterfront availabilities, to include preparation, issue, and execution of technical work documents. You will continuously and constantly improve work processes and utilize manpower and material resources effectively and efficiently. You will be able to interpret engineering drawings and technical documents for complex nuclear and non-nuclear ship class systems and alterations. You will assist the Project Engineer with administering and providing technical guidance for Project Field Engineering duties, conducting final reviews, and providing leadership for the department’s support of shipyard waterfront availabilities. You will provide liaison/coordination with the Engineering Branch personnel, Engineering Division supervisory personnel, and other shops/codes within the shipyard. You will assist with preparing and delegating Engineering Division non-nuclear and nuclear interface work to cognizant technical codes. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-9) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional engineer resolving technical issues for the engineering aspects of ship repair and overhaul projects, implementing established solutions to meet project requirements and constraints, and writing Technical Work Documents (TWDs) required to provide production clear direction and technical specifications. Education Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program as described in paragraph A (above) OR Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
