Sanitation Manager

Highland Baking Company seeks an experienced Sanitation Manager to lead and oversee sanitation operations in our fast-paced food manufacturing facility.

The Sanitation Manager ensures our production equipment, production areas, and facility meet the highest standards of cleanliness, food safety, and regulatory compliance. This position provides hands-on leadership to the sanitation team and works closely with Production, Quality Assurance, and Maintenance to keep operations safe, sanitary, and efficient.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, train, develop, and manage the sanitation team, including performance management and employee development.
• Maintain and complete the Master Cleaning Schedule and sanitation cleaning procedures.
• Ensure sanitation employees follow all SSOPs, SOPs, GMPs, and food safety requirements.
• Maintain compliance with SQF, HACCP, FDA, OSHA, EPA, and applicable local, state, and federal requirements.
• Conduct routine inspections and follow-up to ensure sanitation work is completed thoroughly and on schedule.
• Identify sanitation deficiencies, recurring issues, and process bottlenecks and implement corrective actions.
• Perform and oversee environmental, ATP, and allergen swabbing and ensure results and corrective actions are properly documented.
• Review and update SSOPs and sanitation procedures as operational needs change.
• Maintain chemical inventory and applicable Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
• Ensure chemicals are properly stored, handled, labeled, and used according to established safety procedures.
• Partner with Quality Assurance, Production, and Maintenance to address sanitation, food safety, equipment, and operational concerns.
• Coordinate sanitation activities around production schedules, startups, shutdowns, cleanouts, washouts, and changeovers.
• Ensure employees are properly trained on sanitation procedures, chemical safety, equipment cleaning, food safety, and safe work practices.
• Enforce safety requirements, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
• Monitor sanitation performance and continually identify opportunities to improve cleaning effectiveness, efficiency, and food safety.
• Maintain accurate sanitation records, work orders, training documentation, attendance records, and other required departmental documentation.
• Communicate significant sanitation or food safety concerns to Plant Management promptly.
• Provide leadership and accountability to ensure sanitation standards are consistently maintained across the facility.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of sanitation experience in food manufacturing, commercial baking, or a similar environment.
• Minimum 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience.
• Strong knowledge of food manufacturing sanitation practices and cleaning processes.
• Working knowledge of HACCP, GMP, FDA, SQF, and chemical safety requirements.
• Proven ability to lead, train, coach, and hold employees accountable in a fast-paced production environment.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, communication, and follow-up skills.
• Excellent attention to detail with the ability to identify sanitation and food safety risks.
• Ability to work collaboratively with Production, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, and other departments.
• Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as necessary to support production and sanitation operations.
