Driller Helper

Triax Engineering, a Colorado geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing firm founded in 2014, is hiring a Driller Helper to support our drill rig operators on geotechnical investigations across the Denver metro and Front Range. You will work alongside an experienced driller on our own geotechnical projects and on subcontract drilling for other engineering firms — advancing borings, collecting soil and rock samples, and keeping the rig and crew truck ready to go. No prior drilling experience is required; we will train you on the rig, sampling procedures, and jobsite safety, with a clear path to advancing toward a Driller position as you build skills.
What Youll Do
Assist the driller in setting up, operating, and breaking down drill rigs and support equipment at boring locations.
Handle and connect drill rods, augers, and sampling tools; collect and label soil and rock samples (standard penetration test and thin-walled tube samples) under the drillers direction.
Load, unload, and secure equipment, samples, and materials; keep the rig, tooling, and crew truck clean, organized, and maintained.
Help locate borings, set up traffic control, and maintain a safe work area on active construction sites, roadways, and undeveloped land.
Deliver samples to our laboratory and assist with grout mixing, borehole backfill, and site restoration.
Follow Triax safety procedures, including utility clearance protocols, at all times.
What You Need
Valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record and reliable transportation to our Commerce City shop.
Ability to perform sustained physical work outdoors year-round in all weather, including repeatedly lifting and carrying up to 75 lbs (drill rods, augers, sample tubes, bagged samples) and standing, bending, and climbing on and off equipment throughout the day.
Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn — experience with construction, farming, heavy equipment, landscaping, oilfield, or similar hands-on work is a plus.
Dependability — drilling means early starts, changing schedules, travel to project sites across the Front Range, and occasional overtime or weekend work.
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and DOT physical.
Preferred, not required: Class A or B CDL (we will support qualified employees in obtaining one), prior geotechnical or environmental drilling experience, OSHA 10, and first aid/CPR.
Pay and Benefits
$20.00–$30.00 per hour based on experience, licenses, and demonstrated capability, with pay increases as you earn your CDL and take on greater responsibility on the rig.
